Robert Grant Olsen was born on February 28, 1934 in Laconia, New Hampshire, to Elmer and Marion Olsen and passed away on Jan 14th, 2013. Robert started his career in the United States Army at a young age and proudly served his country for 20 years. Retiring from the US Army with numerous medals and accommodations to include, Vietnam Service Medal, Marksman Carbine, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Campaign Metal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Bronze Star Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster Commendation Medal. Robert “retired” to Colorado, where he and his wife Carol of 46 years raised their family, Tonya and Danny. Robert served School District 3 as the District Maintenance Manager for over 20 years before he finally retired for good. Throughout Robert’s life, he truly enjoyed fishing, camping and playing card games with his family and friends. Robert also enjoyed testing his luck at the slot machines in Cripple Creek where he would usually come home the victor. On a recent venture to Cripple Creek, Late summer, he proved that he did not lose his touch and won big on a slot machine, providing us with his very entertaining and funny “happy dance”. Robert is preceded in death by his loving wife Carol, his parents, three brothers and his sister. Robert leaves behind his daughter, Tonya Johnston and her husband Brian and his son Daniel Olsen. He is also survived by his grandchildren Sarah and Sam Johnston, Sister Elaine Lavery, Sister-in-Law Barbara Bowker-Myers and numerous nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends. There will be a private family service held at a later date in Colorado Springs where Robert will receive the full military honors that he deserves after his honorable service to our country. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that you make donations to the St. Jude Research Foundation to help cure childhood cancer.
