She was the youngest of 10 children, born June 27, 1926 to Rush and Etta Johnston Payne in Braggs, Oklahoma.
She moved to Claremore, Oklahoma in 1937, and graduated from Will Rogers High School in Tulsa in 1944.
She was working for the Tulsa Chamber of Commerce in January of 1950 when she met the love of her life, Robert H. (Bob) Wallace.
They married November 4, 1950 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, spending the first year of their married life in Tulsa.
In 1952, they built their first home in Overland Park, Kansas, where their two children were born.
Later moves with Sherwin Williams Paint Company took them to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and finally to Plano, Texas in 1973.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church Plano since that time. She helped start the first “Couples Class” at the church, and later helped organize the church’s first Grief Care Ministry. Bobbye also served as the church receptionist for several years.
She was active in the community as well, working at local polling places during elections. In 1999, she was the recipient of the City of Plano Living Treasures award, given to seniors who were making a difference in the lives of others.
She took great joy in the “little things” of life…cardinals and hummingbirds, planting flowers in her garden, tearoom lunches, grilled cheese and vegetable soup, decorating for EVERY holiday, cooking multiples of everything for holiday dinners (and worrying that 5 pies wasn’t enough for 8 people), putting up her Christmas village, planning themed Sunday School parties, watermelon and fruit pies…and long conversations with friends and family.
Bobbye was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Wallace; her parents; four sisters and five brothers.
She is survived by her son, R. Stuart Wallace of Richardson; daughter, Susan (husband, Jay) of Plano; granddaughters, Amy Breeding of Alexandria, Virginia; and Janelle (husband, Travis) Whitehead of Austin, Texas; and one great granddaughter, Kennedy Maude Whitehead.
