Saundra was married to Richard J. Sander (Dick). Together they shared 62 wonderful years of marriage. She is survived by her sons James Sander and Richard Sander, along with granddaughters Mary Newport and Jamie Sander, and great-grandson Myles Newport. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her two siblings, Ruth Cravens and Billy Nelson.
Saundra and Dick loved to spend time with family and friends. Together, they especially enjoyed the years of being grandpa and grandma playing with grandchildren. Saundra was a friend to everyone and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was kind-hearted, always smothering the grandchildren with love.
She worked as a US History at Schimelpfenig Middle School in Plano ISD where she shared her passion for her nation with her students. She graduated from Sapulpa High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1962. Saundra received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in education, all while working and raising her children.
Saundra enjoyed spending time with friends playing bingo and she was very lucky. She took pleasure in playing many boards games with her sons and granddaughters. Whether board games or cards, Saundra was competitive, meaning to beat her you had to earn it. Saundra and Dick enjoyed spending time together competing with each other while watching Classic Concentration.
Saundra took great pride being a mom and grandma. She made sure the candy jar was filled with their favorite candies, along with the pantry and fridge. She loved making sure everyone was taken care of and felt loved while at her home. She worked hard to prepare fantastic holiday meals and teaching her granddaughters how to make their favorites throughout the years. She was often the last to eat, making sure everyone had everything they needed prior to herself. She spent countless hours supporting her husband, loving every moment.
Family and friends are invited to attend viewing hours on Friday, June 14th from 4:00-8:00 PM at Ted Dickey Funeral Home, 2128 18th St Plano, TX 75074.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held Saturday, June 15th at 12:00PM also at the funeral home.
Saundra will be laid to rest with her husband at the Plano Mutual Cemetery. The family invites friends for a light reception following the burial back at the funeral home, all are welcome.
