Sharon Barbara Wood McRaney was born on October 18, 1946 in Alma, Michigan. Her younger years were spent in Michigan, Virginia & Alabama. She earned her Bachelors in Education from The University of Southern Mississippi. Sharon married her husband, Harold “Mac” McRaney, on December 26, 1967 in Mobile, Alabama. They would have celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary at the end of this year. Sharon taught elementary school for many years in Mississippi & Missouri before going to work as a civilian for the Air Force in San Antonio, Texas. Teaching was her true calling & she always looked back with the fondest of memories upon those years.
From the very beginning, Sharon was a true animal lover. She loved horses, birds, whales & she especially loved her cats. She also loved antiques & anything old-fashioned. Sharon always said she thought she was born in the wrong time period & was convinced she would fit perfectly in the Victorian Era. In contrast to this, Sharon loved cars. She loved antique cars, sports cars & convertibles. Her favorite car that she ever owned was a ’71 Fiat Spyder convertible. She would put the top down & crank the radio up to listen to 50s Rock and Roll tunes. Sharon also loved the water. When she and Mac were first married, they owned a small sailboat & spent many hours in the gulf waters off the Mississippi coast.
Sharon also enjoyed sewing, embroidery & cooking. Mostly, she loved those things because it meant she could do something for someone else. She could sew her daughter’s prom dress, embroider a baby blanket & cook a favorite meal for a grandchild’s birthday dinner. She was a true caretaker & fierce protector of her family. Her very favorite thing to ever be was “Grams” to her two grandchildren, Brenna & Colin. She strived to always make memories with them & to teach them how to sew, cook & bake from scratch. She loved them from the bottom of her heart.
Sharon leaves behind her husband Mac, her daughter Lynn & son-in-law, William Hurley. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Brenna & Colin Hurley. Sharon goes to join her parents Arthur & Barbara Wood and her siblings Larry Wood, Patrick Wood & Kathy Wood Stadther. She leaves behind Patrick’s daughter, her niece, Laurie Powers and Laurie’s husband, Richard & son, Donovan.
