Steven Lowell Ratzlaff, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on February 3, 2025, at the age of 66. Born and raised in Denver, Colorado, Steven attended John F. Kennedy High School and later Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas.
Steve had a lifelong passion for reading and learning, with particular interests in music, technology, food, and travel. His love for music began with piano lessons at an early age and blossomed into a desire to write and perform his own music. He spent over 12 years traveling the country with his co-founded band, Watermark.
After his musical journey, Steve pursued a career in technology. He worked in various roles, always eager to learn, support, improve and innovate. He spent most of the last 32 years working with his good friend Jeffry at Greyware Automation.
Steve loved food and was quite the “foodie”. He didn’t just like to go out to eat. He loved to experiment in his kitchen making all kinds of different recipes. He was especially known for his Cheesecake. His love for travel and adventure took him around the world, both with family and on solo adventures. He was always eager for new experiences, the last of which was a trip to Iceland and Greenland with his family.
Although Steve was quite the intellect, he was known for his kindness, thoughtfulness, generosity, and compassion. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his father, Lowell Ratzlaff; his brother and sister-in-law, Stuart and Beth Ratzlaff; his niece, Beri Ratzlaff; his nephew, Baxter Ratzlaff; and close friends Jeffry Dwight and Dan Shoop, and many other friends and relatives. He is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Marlene Ratzlaff.
