

Udene Walker Fortney, age 74, of Dallas, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2012. She was born on July 31, 1937, in Ada, Oklahoma, to the late Scott and Zana Walker. Udene earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of North Texas in 1957. She taught school for four years, one year at Midland Elementary School and three years at Walnut Hill Elementary School in Dallas. Udene was truly a prayer warrior and a woman of faith. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Richardson for 30 years, where she was very active in the Sylvia DeLoach Sunday School Class. Udene was proud of her membership in the Alpha Delta Kappa, Beta Chapter Teachers Sorority. Over the years, Udene was an advocate for special needs individuals. She and her husband, Doug, and their daughters led Circle of Friends, a social group for special needs individuals, for 10 years. She was a lovable person, had many friends, and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Fortney, to whom she was married 54 wonderful years; two daughters, Eileen Fortney of Dallas and Pam Fortney of Plano; sister, Glenda Jean James of Fallbrook, California; sister-in-law, Ramona Evelyn Martell of Claremont, Florida; brother-in-law, Charles M. Fortney of Lincoln, Nebraska; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 1, 2012 from 3-6pm in Ted Dickey Funeral Home, 2128 18th St., Plano, TX 75074. A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 2, 2012 at 10am in Plano Mutual Cemetery; with a Celebration of Life service beginning at 11:30am at First Baptist Church, 1001 N. Central Expressway, Richardson, TX 75080. Since Udene was a breast cancer survivor, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
