She will always be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother, and cherished friend to all who knew and loved her. Ginny was born on February 17, 1946, in Houston, Texas, to Max Emerson Layne and Virginia Rose Harrelson.
Ginny dedicated herself to the art of ballet throughout her youth and into high school. The discipline and grace she cultivated through dance stayed with her throughout her life.
After graduating from Lamar High School in 1964, Ginny attended Harding University to pursue her creative passion. She graduated in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in Art.
On March 22, 1969, Ginny married the love of her life, Wilbur Cottle Jr. They resided in Richardson, Texas, prior to settling their family in Murphy, Texas in 1974. Over the years, they shared many outdoor adventures, often backpacking through the breathtaking landscapes of Colorado and New Mexico. As their family grew, they also ventured into the Alaskan wilderness, where Ginny made sure each camping trip was filled with hot cocoa and warm meals, creating lasting memories in nature.
Ginny spent time volunteering for the Women’s Auxiliary of the Murphy Volunteer Fire Department as well as the Murphy Garden Club and former Murphy Community Library.
Her passions extended beyond community involvement. Ginny was an accomplished artist and an avid lover of the outdoors. She had a remarkable green thumb and could often be found tending to her flower beds, where her roses bloomed in abundance, or caring for her large vegetable garden. She enjoyed cooking for her family and nurturing all who were blessed to discover her sweet demeanor.
Ginny was a songbird, and her beautiful voice was a constant presence in her home. She also enjoyed playing the piano, and her music brought comfort to those around her.
Ginny is survived by her beloved husband, Wilbur Cottle of Murphy, Texas; her children, April Heffley and partner Barry Eisenberg of Ft. Worth, Texas, William Cottle and wife Shelly of Anna, Texas, and Raina Stanley of Murphy, Texas; and her grandchildren, Austin Hambly and partner Matthew Erwin of Wylie, Texas, Taya Hambly of McKinney, Texas, Pauline and Amy Cottle of Anna, Texas, and Ella Stanley of Murphy, Texas.
