Born in Plant City, Florida on December 23, 1929, Betty Jo “BJ” Roetzheim passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026, at the age of 96. Her life was filled with music, joy, deep faith, and a love for people that touched every room she entered.
BJ was the beloved daughter of Mabel and Joe B. Hinson, and sister to Joey Hinson (Betty) and Mary Ella Pippin. She grew up surrounded by family, faith, and the values that shaped her generous spirit.
While attending Florida State University, BJ earned her bachelor’s degree and performed in the FSU Circus—an experience she cherished for the rest of her life. It was also at FSU that she met the love of her life, William “Bill” Roetzheim. They married and shared 60 wonderful years together before his passing on February 26, 2014. BJ often said she felt profoundly blessed to have traveled the world with Bill, meeting people from all walks of life and collecting memories that filled her heart with gratitude.
A gifted and devoted educator, BJ spent many years teaching both music and elementary grades. Her compassion, creativity, and dedication left a lasting impact on countless students who remember her with affection and admiration. Music was the heartbeat of her life—she played the piano with vibrancy and joy until her final days, especially cherishing the Methodist hymns that reflected her faith.
BJ was also a passionate Tampa Bay Rays fan, following every season with enthusiasm and delight. She loved sharing time with friends over a glass of wine, celebrating life’s moments big and small. Her vibrant personality, warm smile, and joyful presence made every gathering brighter.
She is survived by her children: William Roetzheim (Marianne), Richard Roetzheim (Kathy), and Marlene Olson (Jon), along with grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family, and many dear friends who will forever carry her spirit in their hearts.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to LifePath Hospice and the compassionate team at Grace Manor for their exceptional care, kindness, and support. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to First United Methodist Church of Plant City. Funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Plant City July 18th (visitation at 10:00 AM, service at 11:00 AM).
BJ’s life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her legacy one of love, music, and joy.
