Edward (“Eddie”) Arthur Thompson shed his earthly tent and went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 6, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, FL. He was born on December 27, 1936 in Washington, D.C., the son of Joshua and Louise (Harrison) Thompson.
Eddie graduated from Suitland High School in Suitland, Maryland in 1955, and served four years in the United States Navy on Guam and in Japan from 1957 to 1961. Eddie had a successful-25-year career with the C&P Telephone Company in the Washington, D.C. metro area, and retired to Plant City, FL at the age of 55 in 1991.
Eddie had a decades long music ministry in Plant City, serving as a faithful member of the praise and worship team at One Accord Church and playing with great joy for the elderly at local nursing homes. He was a talented musician who sang both melody and harmony, and played several instruments, but his lifelong passion and love was the dobro.
In addition to his parents, Eddie was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Cox. Eddie is survived by his son, Matt Ash, and his wife, Ellie, of Monument, CO; as well as his daughter, Sharon Thompson Supp, and her husband, Jim, of Sterling, VA. Eddie has left a legacy of five amazing grandchildren: Griffin (38), Lauren (36), Jordan (32), Natalie (19), and Adam (17); and four equally awesome great-grandchildren: Eastwood (9), Denver (5), Matthew (5), and Theodore (3).
Those who wish to remember Eddie in a special way can make gifts in his memory to the One Accord Church, 2203 W. Baker Street, Plant City, FL 33563.
