George Ashbourne Bryan was born on January 2, 1943, in St. Ann, Jamaica. His parents were Cecil George Bryan and Mary Caroline Bryan. He was one of eight children. He departed this earth on November 7, 2023.
As a young boy, growing up in St. Ann, Jamaica, Ashie, as he was fondly called, (short form for Ashbourne, his middle name) went to live with his grandparents George and Margaret Bryan in Blackstonedge, a nearby district in St. Ann. Life with his grandparents made him the playmate of all the other grandchildren of George and Margaret Bryan who spent many summer holidays in that home. Some of those cousins remember him as a little boy who was gifted with the ability to make toys for them. Several times per year, Ashie would come to his parent’s home to spend weekends with them and with his siblings.
Ashie attended St. George’s All-age School in St. Ann Jamaica. After leaving school he decided to join his father in agriculture. Ashie and his father cultivated bananas for export, and potatoes, yams, and vegetables for the local market. They also raised and marketed livestock. Another venture he worked at with his parents was the operation of a retail grocery store. Ashie continued in those fields of endeavor until he was forty years old, at which time he migrated to the United States. As he died an octogenarian, it can be said that he spent half of his life in his native land, and the other half in America. When Ashie arrived in New York in early 1982, he found employment in the security services. He continued in that field until 2009 when he decided to relocate to Florida for retirement. He purchased a condo in Plant City, Florida, near three of his sisters.
During his retirement, he became absorbed with his computer and was always doing research on Google. He was very curious about herbal medicines as he had been facing some health issues. He purchased a host of items from the Health Food Distributors and was very adventurous in trying those supplements and herbs he had discovered in the literature he read.
Ashie enjoyed walking long distances and visiting the library. He liked having conversations with people from all walks of life and was always curious about their backgrounds. He loved sports, especially boxing, cricket, and basketball. He was a fan of Tim Duncan, the basketballer from the San Antonio Spurs, and he admired the Miami Heat and their star player Jimmy Butler. Ashie loved spending time with his siblings and engaging them in friendly banter. He also loved and appreciated his two caregivers Melissa and Jessica.
Ashie was predeceased by his parents Cecil George Bryan and Mary Caroline Bryan and his brother Reynold. He leaves to mourn, his brothers Billy and Keithy, his four sisters Thelma, Norma, Nola, and Margarette, nieces, nephews, several cousins, and many friends.
MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE.
