It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Henry "Howard" Simpkins, a devoted husband, beloved son, and passionate outdoorsman. Henry passed away on August 31, 2024, at the age of 35, leaving behind a legacy of love, adventure, and cherished memories.
Born and raised in Maine, Henry developed an early love for the outdoors, a passion instilled in him by his father, who taught him the art of scuba diving and sailing. These experiences sparked a lifelong love affair with the sea and the natural world, which became central to Henry’s life and work.
Henry pursued his passion for the ocean as a hydrographic engineer, dedicating his career to mapping and understanding the mysteries of the deep. His work not only reflected his love for the sea but also his desire to protect and preserve the natural world for future generations. His contributions to the field will continue to resonate for years to come.
At home, Henry was a loving husband to Autumn Simpkins, his partner in life and adventure. Their bond was one of deep love, respect, and shared joy. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, exploration, and the warmth of their family. Henry's love extended to his four cherished fur babies, Gizmo, Sara, Roxie, and Bruin, who brought him immense happiness and comfort.
Henry's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his unwavering love for his family, and his dedication to his work. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will live on in the gentle sway of the ocean waves, the whisper of the wind on a sailing day, and the hearts of those who loved him.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at Wells Memorial Center in Plant City Friday September 13th from 5-7pm, with a celebration of life planned for a later date in Maine. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to an ocean conservation charity of your choice, a cause that was close to Henry's heart.
Hank is survived by his spouse Autumn Simpkins, his mother Pamela Simpkins and father Hank Simpkins, his brother Jack Simpkins, nephew Rylan Simpkins, sister Libby Lechnir and brother in law Colton Lechnir.
Rest in peace, Hank. You will be forever loved , missed and never forgotten
