

Shiffrar, Joyce (Jo) entered into rest July 8, 2012. Wife of Harold Shiffrar, born to Mildred and Harold Duteau on August 27, 1927 in Athol, MA. Joyce graduated from Athol High School while participating in DCT. She worked with LS Starrett Tool Co as an office clerk and was promoted to an executive secretary. She enlisted in the USAF in March of 1952 becoming a radio operator assigned to Griffis AFB Rome, NY. Transferred to Eglin AFB Fort Walton Beach, FL and assigned to aircraft control at the Air Armament Center. There she met her future husband and was married June 5, 1954. During her duty she was asked to audition with the AF band as a vocalist with a beautiful trained soprano voice.
After separation from service in November 1954 the couple returned to Athol where she returned to Starrett's while her husband completed college. Their familiarity with Florida brought them to Plant City in 1958 where Joyce was a housewife and Harold taught school until retirement. The couple were greatly involved in the love, care, and operation of Grace United Methodist Church for many years.
Joyce will be buried at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. She is survived by her husband and two sons, Rand of Plant City and Gary of Atlanta, GA, and two brothers, Ronald Hause and Neil Hendrich. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. and a service at 11 a.m. at Wells Memorial Funeral Home, 1903 W Reynolds Street, Plant City on Thursday, July 12. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to LifePath Hospice, Aqua Team, 12973 Telecom Pkwy, Suite 100, Temple Terrace, FL 33637 or Florida United Methodist Children's Home, 51 Children’s Way, Enterprise, FL 32725.
