Mary Jo Campbell

December 12, 1936April 13, 2021

Mary Jo Campbell, age 84, passed away in her home surrounded by family on April 13, 2021. She was born on December 12, 1936 in Plant City, Florida, to Pete and Helen Crum. She married the love of her life, Jimbo Campbell in 1956 who preceded her in death in 1994. She received her degree in Elementary Education from Florida State University and after a fulfilling full-time job of raising her children, she taught at Springhead Elementary until her retirement in 2008.

Affectionately called Mama Jo, she was known for her fierce loyalty and love for family and friends. She treasured every moment with her family and loved her weekly game of bridge with lifelong friends. Mama Jo took great pride in her children and grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to celebrate their successes, big and small. Never far from her calendar filled with important dates, she never missed the opportunity to send a card or gift to all she cared about. She had a great love of the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and time at Lake Louise with her family. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

She is survived by her four children, Jolynn, Lisa, Craig and Maurice; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, sister Maureen and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at Wells Memorial Funeral Home in Plant City on Saturday April 17th at 11:00 AM. Donations can be made to Bruton Memorial Library.

Ms. Campbell was an avid reader; she was always on the top of the list for the Newly Released fiction novels at the Bruton Memorial Library. What a classy lady! Over the 20 years that I engaged with her at the library, never was a hair out of place nor a nail chipped. She was always poised and polished. Prayers to the family and close friends.... to know Mary Jo is to love her.

Mary Jo and I were very good friends for over 60 years. She and her husband, Jimbo and I enjoyed lots of good times, along with being business partners. My children grew up with their children . I know she will be missed by her family and friends, including me. I talked with her several times recently and she was always her normal Mary Jo, upbeat and great sense of humor.

Mama Jo was a lifelong friend to our whole family and we were all truly blessed have shared her in our lives. Too many memories to share but will always treasure our Florida-Florida State rivalry. Her famous FSU cheer entertained us all during games. She was a great friend to our mother and was always there to bring a smile.
She will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.
May God bless the whole family and may fond memories always be in your hearts.
