

Mary Stallard Humphrey, 75, of Plant City, Florida entered into rest on August 6, 2022. Mary was born on July 4, 1947 in Miami, Florida to Dr. and Mrs. William A. Stallard. She married Dr. Donald P. Humphrey on June 12, 1971, and they have two children, Caroline Marie and Jonathan Armistead.
Mary graduated from Manatee High School in Bradenton, Florida in 1965 and then graduated in 1967 from Manatee Junior College with an AA Degree. In 1969 she received her BA degree in science education (biology) from the University of South Florida.
She taught school in Jefferson County, Florida in 1969, and then from 1970 -1971, she was an inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Avon Park, Florida. In 1971 and 1972 she was an analyst for the Baker Seed Lab in Memphis, Tennessee. From 1972 – 1980 she was a supervisor for the Homemaker Services Program in East Hillsborough County and then again from 1983 – 1984.
She has a long paraprofessional history as well which includes: Member of the Hillsborough Society of Optometrists Auxiliary from 1974-1995, Member of the Florida Optometric Auxiliary where she was elected the State Director in 1987-1988. She was a State Chairman of the Optometric Scholarship Program and a member of the American Optometric Association Auxiliary.
Her honors include the National Honor Society at Manatee High School, Phi Theta Kappa Honorary Society at Manatee Junior College, Exchange Student to Bogota, Columbia from Manatee Junior College, Business and Professional Women (BPW) Young Careerist of the Year (Local and District Winner) 1974, and Outstanding Young Women of America (1978-1980).
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Plant City, Florida, and was a Sunday School teacher from 1974-1986. She was a member of the Council of Ministries and Administrative Board and Chairman of the Worship Committee, as well as a member of the United Methodist Women since 1981.
Mary was also very involved in civic organizations, which include: The Business and Professional Women’s Club (BPW) from 1972 to 1978, where she was the Past Recording Secretary, Past Membership VP, and Past President, 1975-1976; Junior Women’s Club, Plant City (1973-1977) where she was Past Education Chairman; and Past Chairman for the Little Miss Plant City Pageant in 1974; Plant City Lions Auxiliary from 1983-1993 and Past Historian of the Lions Club from 1985-1986. She was the Homeroom Chairman for Jackson Elementary School from 1984-1987 and Past PTA Committee Chairman.
Mary was a lifelong student of the Bible. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, and science. She dearly loved her six grandchildren and enjoyed taking them to the pumpkin patch and corn maze. She was a kind and gentle soul; she was selfless, tenderhearted, and loyal. Mary was a devoted daughter and a caregiver for her mother, Goma Stallard. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Mary was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Grant Stallard. She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Dr. Donald P. Humphrey; daughter, Caroline Masek (Seth); son, Jonathan Humphrey (Valrie); grandchildren, Ethan and Elaina Masek, Heidi and Hanah McDaniel, and William and Weston Humphrey; sister-in-law Dr. Joy Schackow (Sam), nephew Mark Kess, and niece Dr. Stefanie Stallard.
A visitation for Mary will be held Saturday, September 3, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Wells Memorial Funeral Home, 1903 W Reynolds St, Plant City, FL 33563. A funeral service will occur Saturday, September 3, 2022, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Wells Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Plant City, Florida.
