HERRING, Thomas E., age 86, passed away in Blairsville, GA on Oct. 15, 2014. He was born in Miami, FL. Tommy attended Plant City High School and quit in the 11th grade to join the US Navy where he served from 1944-1964, serving on the USS Yellow-stone and the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (among others), retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. He then worked in agriculture in Ft. Lonesome, FL from 1964-1999 and then retired to Blairsville, GA.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Irene Taylor Herring; two sisters, Margaret Gibbs, Laverne Robinson; nephews, Jack Gibbs, Ricky Robinson, Roy Robinson; nieces, Peggy Gibbs, Tobe Robinson and several great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be at Wells Memorial at 3pm on Mon., Oct. 20, 2014. The family will receive friends at 2:30pm. Burial will follow at Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
