Born in Toronto, Ontario, died peacefully at Herron Residence in Dorval, Quebec at the age of 96. Cherished son of the late Ivan Brown and the late Virginia Solway. Beloved husband of the late Mary Brown (née Robertson), dear father of Mary-Lou Simac (Edward) of Ottawa, Donald (Judy) of Toronto, and Robert (Katherine Bleho) of Baie-D’Urfé, Quebec. Proud grandfather of Adam Simac (Ashley), Jason Simac (Kim), Kimberly and Mary-Michelle. Loving partner of Lea Hines and caring friend to Carolyn, Tracy, Robert and JoAnne Hines. Served in the RCAF during WWII. Attended the University of Toronto, graduating in 1950 with a Master of Applied Science degree, which led to employment with the City of Toronto as a professional engineer, and subsequently, to a long career with Bell Canada in Toronto and Montreal. An avid amateur radio enthusiast, VE2ALZ is now a silent key. We will all miss his quick mind, wit and warmth. The family is grateful to caregivers Tina, Johanne and Serin for their skill, compassion, and attentiveness, as well as to the staff at West Island Manor and Herron Residence. Visitation and service at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home, 222 Autoroute 20 at Cartier Avenue, Pointe Claire, Quebec. Visitation on Friday, February 1, 7 – 9 p.m., and on Saturday, February 2 at 1 p.m., prior to the celebration of life at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, the West Island Palliative Care Residence or the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation.
