Douglas Gibson

November 3, 1951July 4, 2019

Douglas Barclay Gibson, 67, passed away on July 4th after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Jody (Ekins), his three daughters Erin (John Scott), Laura (Alex Chretien), and Megan (Sylvain Boudreault), as well as his grandchildren Maya, Adele, and Zack, as well as his sister Karen (Pierre Belanger). To have met Doug is to know that there are not enough words to describe his charismatic personality. He was a natural leader and his sense of humour instantly made all feel welcome. He had many interests. He excelled at baseball early on, he loved and taught skiiing and had a lifelong passion for fishing and golf. An avid traveller, he experienced many of his happiest moments while vacationing with his wife and family. Doug graduated from Loyola College (B.Com) and McGill (CPA). His career started at Coopers and Lybrand, followed with executive positions at Montreal Trust, BCE Inc and Bell Canada, which led to starting his own company le groupe Cambium. His love of family and community was evident. He coached his daughters in soccer and ringette. He was on the Board of Directors at the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation and at the West Island Palliative Care Residence Foundation. As a member of the Royal Montreal Golf Club he was instrumental in organizing Canadian Open tournaments, and the President’s Cup. He also served as club President and as Chairman of the long range committee. A celebration of his life will be held July 14th, 2019 at the Royal Montreal Golf Club. A memorial will take place from 14:00-14:45 followed by a reception until 17:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cedars Cancer Foundation, The West Island Palliative Care Residence, or NOVA West Island.

To Jody, Erin, Laura, Megan and family,

It’s with deep sadness to learn of Doug’s passing. He was a huge support to my family over many years, he welcomed us into your family and was a fantastic father in law to my brother Rob. I remember his large personality, when ever he entered a room, and great sense of humour. His pride over his family always on display.

Heart felt condolences at this difficult time.

My sincere condolences to Jody, Erin, Laura, Megan and the entire Gibson family.
I had the great pleasure to coach ringette along side Doug for only 1 season. But what a season it was. The most fun year my daughter and I had in the sport. Doug's great sense of humour and his joie de vivre personna was so prominent at every practise, game, tournament or team party. He exemplified what good sportsmanship and having fun was all about...life lessons for all!
Wonderful memories that we'll cherish forever.

Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during these most difficult times.

Our heartfelt sympathies to Jody, Erin, Laura, Megan and their families. We were deeply saddened by the news of Doug's passing and can only imagine the pain and heartache that you are all feeling with the loss of such an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend.
When we moved across the street a few years ago, Jody and Doug were the first to welcome us to the neighbourhood with a bottle of wine and genuine smiles. It was obvious from that very first conversation that we had the best neighbours. Every conversation with Doug revealed a kind, caring, intelligent, funny and devoted person who had an unlimited love for life and his family. Every Sunday, as we saw the family gather at the house for an afternoon and evening of togetherness, it was proof of the incredible family bond that Jody and Doug built together. May the deep love and bond of your family guide you through this difficult time.
We will never forget the kind smile and friendly wave that Doug always gave as he drove by...truly one-of-a-kind. Please know that we are here for you Jody...xo

My Deepest Condolences to My Aunt Jody and Cousins Erin, Laura and Megan and their families. I had the honor and privilege of living with the Gibson Family. Uncle Doug was like my 2nd father. I remembered how he would often dance with Jody in the kitchen after dinner, or read "Twas the Night before Christmas" every year on Christmas eve to his kids. I remember our trips to Cape Cod and how I witnessed him singing and dancing to the Macarena in happiness. My Uncle Doug broke down barriers with his gift of love, wisdom & humor , he brought people, friends and family together. He was a gift of Love.

I am Jody’s cousin, and as a younger boy I always remember everything perking up in the room when Jody entered the room. When Doug and Jody got together I can remember how perfect they were together, and that Doug just made everyone around him feel.....well.....better. His personality and humor were filled with warmth and caring, and I know he will be remembered fondly by all that knew him. RIP Doug you will be missed.

Doug was one of a kind and this is a great loss for his family and those of us who considered him a friend. When I remember Doug, he was always the consummate gentleman, astute businessman, community volunteer.....but what shone through greatest was his love and concern for his family. Truly a man I admired.
My heartfelt condolences to the family.

We first met Doug and Jody at the memorable PGMA in Lake Placid in September 1984. We were new to this wonderful group of people. Doug was so warm and friendly, often making sure we felt at ease with the group. He also demonstrated his wonderful sense of humour when he said HE had « the longest drive » because he had to drive his girls to Kingston before coming to Lake Placid!! Our hearts and our thoughts are with you Jody and your family. Doug left an indelible mark on everyone he met, he will be remembered fondly.
