Elizabeth Conroy Fitzgerald

(Lizzie) – Passed away peacefully, with her son at her side on Sunday November 23, 2014, at 77 years of age at the Peterborough Regional Health Center Hospital.

Beloved wife of Frank (Frankie) Fitzgerald for 59 years. Loving mother of Frank Jr. and his wife Sue of Kirkland. Proud grandmother of Frank (Jess) and Eric (Kelly). Great-grandmother of Musa, Maryam, and Hannah. Dear sister of Kitty Costantini, Charlie Conroy, Peter Conroy, and the late Paddy and Martin Conroy. Much loved sister-in-law of Joan Conroy and Mabel Fitzgerald. Dear aunt of Cathy, Cheryl, Sharon, Patricia, Rick, Kim, and Kevin. Elizabeth will be remembered by many other relatives and friends. We will miss your kind, generous, and selfless spirit.

As per her wishes, Lizzie was cremated in Peterborough, Ont. Funeral services will be held at Collins Clarke funeral home (222 autoroute 20 Pointe Claire) on Sat, Dec 6th. The family is honored and pleased that long time family friend, Father Patrick Donnelly, has graciously agreed to perform the service. Visitation will take place from 1:00 until 2:00 pm, and the service will take place at 2:00 in the chapel. Family members are invited for coffee and sandwiches after the ceremony in the reception room.

As per Lizzie’s life-long beliefs and what she would undoubtedly be demanding of us is to request is that in lieu of flowers, which will die and be thrown away within days anyway, for all of us to help others by donating to the Heart & Stroke foundation instead. She would be annoyed with us all if we did not listen. All of her life Lizzie gave to many charities as she wished to help others and did not believe that she should be pampered. Even while in the hospital she was embarrassed that she had flowers and others did not. She had a heart of Gold. Her last wishes (in writing) was : “When you are sick of heart, go to the friends you know, and busy your sorrows in doing good”.
