Late Husband of Anne Forbes, father to Bill and Heather, and life partner to Bridie Bonny and granddad to Scott, Sarah, Jackson, and Brianna.
Harry grew up in Glasgow Scotland who was ever proud of his heritage, and defying all odds, never gave up his accent.
Upon emigrating to Canada he fell in love with Anne McLean, married and quickly started a family. Their love story was short, losing Anne in 1976, Harry would often say, “it’s not the length of the story but the amount of memories you can make in the time that you have.”
Although no official family in Canada, Harry fell into a gang of Scottish Mafioso’s (Barclay, Shepherd, Reston, Hamilton, Menary to name a few) which was living proof that family doesn’t always mean sharing blood. They joined him on the soccer pitch, cementing his love of soccer and drinks after the game. Later on, Harry started up the Pincourt Canucks and PAA soccer team inspiring many young boys who he had the privilege to coach.
After the passing of Anne, Harry was fortunate to find Bridie Bonny. Their love is legendary, almost as legendary as their fights. We were blessed to also have Bridie’s children Colleen, and her daughter Erin, and Denys join our family, the 70’s version of the Brady Bunch. Bridie was with Harry to the end, holding his hand sharing memories.
Harry was a proud employee of Procter & Gamble with over 37 years of service. Service might be a strong word, most people will tell you that his sole role was to laugh and joke until it was time to rush off to the Green Bowl.
Harry was most proud of his grandchildren, Doctor Scott Forbes at Princeton University; Sarah Forbes, his soccer dynamo; Jackson Montelpare, his quiet young man, and Brianna Montelpare his little princess. All were his pride and joy and well trained on how to quietly sneak a beer to him while Granny wasn’t looking.
A celebration of life is planned on July 30th at 2:00 pm at the Ste Anne de Bellevue Legion, please join Bill, Heather, and Bridie to raise a glass, share a laugh of the memories of Harry Forbes.
Harry didn’t believe in flowers or funerals, so in his honour, the family requests that in lieu of any memorial contributions, spend time with your loves one and make a toast to enduring legacy of love and laughter.
A special thank you to the staff at the Lakeshore Hospital and Centre Lauren Bergevin and Judy Mitchell, your love and care of Harry was greatly appreciated by the family.
Arrangements under the direction of Collins Clarke MacGillvray White, Pointe-Claire, Québec.
