Born in Rotterdam The Netherlands, Jan/John came to Canada in 1947 where he initially worked in the Canadian Forestry Industry, a field where his family excelled. Later in life, he graduated from Concordia (Sir George Williams) and worked as an engineer for various companies in Montreal.
From a family of six children, only two survive: Riet of Rotterdam and Herman of Toronto. Many thanks to his beloved late sister Jet’s children, especially Birgit M. who kept in contact throughout the years. Previous husband to the late Eva Bastet née Tempelman (1976-1980) and the late Romana née Sygnarski (1995-2017).
Sincere and warm thanks to his devoted care-givers, Vivien Lapa, Karen & Jennifer L., Maria K., Zuzanna K., Lorna C., Barbara W. and the hard-working staff at the senior residence Place St. Moritz, St. Laurent where he lived for the past 12 years.
Funeral arrangements to be made by Collins Clarke MacGillvray White, with a private burial at Mount Royal Cemetery in spring. Please remember Jan with joy, smiles and a toast of wine as we continue to share in his love of art, travel and history. To our special Jan R.I.P.
