WWII Veteran -RCN #A5198 / Former Director of Recreation - City of Westmount / Avid sports enthusiast / Recent adopted vet of Bev and Shirley.
The fantastic staff at the Ste. Anne’s Veterans Hospital carried John though the final year of his life. Our family was absolutely amazed at the personable care that was given to John. Thank you forever for your generosity, compassion and kindness.
Survived by his sister Ruth E. Garland (Douglas A. Jackson), Nieces and Nephews - Wendy (Garrett), Gail (Peter) Jessica, Andrew, Gary (Gail), Justin, Britney, Matthew and dear friend Dave McCrindle.
John absolutely loved his job, especially the hockey program. Who could forget the Pee Wee All-Stars? The main challenge was to get those involved to abide by Westmount’s strict philosophy that all players get equal playing time. Still the practice today as carried out by the fabulous Mike Deegan. John was more amazed by the enthusiasm and sense of humour of a participant rather than just their physical ability. After Westmount, he continued coaching and then became a spectator until very recently. Special thanks to all of you who helped fulfill John’s life over the years.
As with John’s wishes, a private family service was held. In lieu of flowers donations to the Veteran’s would be greatly appreciated by John.
Well kids, keep your head up, two hands on your stick and most of all no penalties as from now on he will be cheering for all of you high up from the bleacher’s section.
