Jack was raised in Kitchener, Ontario where he enjoyed playing many sports including football and hockey. Anyone who knew him then and later in life of course knew that golf was his true passion. That is until he met Joan. Theirs was an epic love story that lasted close to 60 years. All eyes turned to the beautiful couple who would light up a room when they walked in. They started their life together and began raising a family of eventually six children.
Jack pursued his career working for Pfizer pharmaceuticals which led him to Montreal, where he stayed until his retirement as Director of Marketing in 1993. At the same time, he was assuring the well being of his children and wife while always making time for travelling with Joan, vacations with family as well as time with his second family at the golf course(s). Jack was known for having an uncanny ability to read people and recognize their strengths and weaknesses immediately. This served him well in business and led to some creative nicknames with his friends. He was an excellent golfer who won many tournaments and was invested in the functioning of the courses where he played, eventually serving as president of Whitlock golf club.
Jack devoted much time and energy into raising his special needs daughter Mary Margaret until her passing in 2003. He also supported his loving wife Joan through her difficult challenges with Alzheimer’s and cancer until her passing in 2009.
He found comfort in an old friend from his days in Kitchener, Rose Marie White. They helped each other through the grief of losing their spouses and eventually rekindled an old flame. Jack and Rose Marie married in 2010 and lived together in Brockville and Florida before moving to Montreal in 2018. Jack’s generosity was felt by everyone who’s lives he touched, particularly his children and grandchildren. Jack’s sharp wit, sarcastic humour and booming laugh will live on through his surviving family. Deborah Hencher (Clyde), Diana Riordan Jazwinski (John), Donna Letourneau, Patrick Michael Riordan, Maureen Riordan (Errol), his 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Jack was also a beloved uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his siblings Mary Margaret Riordan, Richard (Dick) Riordan and Joan Masters. He is also survived by his sisters Terri Knott and Barbara Massiah.
