

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad on April 15, 2015 just short of his 91st birthday. He was predeceased by Betty, his best friend and loving wife of 62 years. Loving father to Joanne (Michael Prendergast), Debbie, Stephen, Donna (David McIlveen), Sharon and Sandra (Joe Schembre). Cherished Grandpa and Poppy to Laura, Ashley, James, Matthew, Elizabeth, William (Nellie), Sara, Thomas, Phillip Joseph (P.J.) and Marissa. He will also be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his sister Violet Fellows, brothers Fraser and Bruce Williams, and sister-in-law Edith Williams, along with his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Born and raised in Barney's River, Nova Scotia, he was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University in 1947. He then went on to earn his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Nova Scotia in 1949. He began his career with the Defence Research Board and Ingersoll Rand. He joined Wire Rope Industries in 1954 and retired in 1989 as Vice President, Manufacturing and Engineering. In retirement he became involved in consulting services relating to the steel wire rope industry and frequently travelled internationally in this capacity. His contributions to the profession were acknowledged by several national and international organizations. In 2009, he was inducted as a Fellow in The Canadian Society for Senior Engineers (C.S.S.E.). Sid was an active member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years. He was a trustee and served as an elder, including as clerk of session. For a time he served on the Property Committee of the Presbytery of Montreal. He was an active volunteer in the community, and served as President (2 terms) of the Kiwanis Club of Lac St-Louis, was a member of the Lake Magog Masonic Lodge no. 55, and served on the Board of Directors of the West Island YMCA. For 25 years he was a volunteer at the Ste. Anne's Veteran's Hospital. Special thanks to Dr. D. Look and the staff of 3 North of the Lakeshore General Hospital for their loving care of Dad. Visitation will be held at Briarwood Presbyterian Church, 70 Beaconsfield Boulevard, Beaconsfield, QC, H9W 3Z3 (514-695-1879) on Friday, May 8, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The service will be held at the church on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dad to Briarwood Presbyterian Church or the Montreal Children's Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
