Lorraine Power

It is with sadness that we announce the death, in her 98th year, of Lorraine Power Deslauriers, beloved wife of the late Gaétan Deslauriers, daughter of the late Patrick Power and the late Mary McCarthy, and sister of the late Marion Power (the late Hubert Gourdeau) and the late Norma Power (André Martineau).

Lorraine died peacefully in the early morning of January 29th, 2021, at the Lakeshore General Hospital, in Pointe-Claire, Québec. She is survived by her 6 children: Roxanne (Rajmund Somorjai), Anne-Marie (James Reed), Liane, Christiane (Chris Carruthers), Serge (the late Danielle Pouliot) and Raynald (Julie Tessier). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ildikó Somorjai (Francesc Alier Pous), Miklós Somorjai and Tara Deslauriers (Samuel Bouffard), by two of her sisters-in-law, Yseult Deslauriers and Thérèse Deslauriers, and by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Lorraine was born, raised and lived most of her life in and around the Quebec City area. A dedicated member of the Anglophone community, she volunteered with several organizations, including the St-Brigid’s Home Auxiliary and the St-Patrick’s Catholic Church community. She and Gaétan were also very involved in the building of the St-Louis-de-France Catholic Church and Community, in Ste-Foy, Québec. She moved to Montreal’s West Island in her later years.

The family would like to express its gratitude to the staff of the Jeffrey Hale Community Services (formerly the Holland Center) in Quebec City, Québec, for being such a caring community for Lorraine for so many years, to her caretakers, Christina Gauvin and Mireille Re-Belle Froment, who made it possible for her to stay in her home for as long as she did, to the staff at Chateau Dollard, in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Québec, who have provided her with great warmth and care for the last 4 years, and to the personnel of 4 North at the Lakeshore General Hospital for helping her last days be so peaceful and serene in spite of these challenging times.

Lorraine will be buried in St-Patrick’s Cemetery with her beloved Gaétan at a private family ceremony at a future date. She supported Doctors Without Borders if you wish to honour her with a donation, or, perhaps more appropriately, raise a spoon of your favourite ice cream in her memory.

Lorraine est décédée paisiblement le 29 janvier 2021 à l'hôpital général du Lakeshore, à Pointe-Claire, Québec. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses 6 enfants: Roxanne (Rajmund Somorjai), Anne-Marie (James Reed), Liane, Christiane (Chris Carruthers), Serge (feu Danielle Pouliot) et Raynald (Julie Tessier). Elle laisse également dans le deuil ses petits-enfants, Ildikó Somorjai (Francesc Alier Pous), Miklós Somorjai et Tara Deslauriers (Samuel Bouffard), deux de ses belles-sœurs, Yseult Deslauriers et Thérèse Deslauriers, ainsi que plusieurs nièces et neveux bien-aimés.

Lorraine est née, a grandi et a vécu la majeure partie de sa vie dans la région de la Ville de Québec. Membre dévouée de la communauté anglophone, elle a fait du bénévolat auprès de plusieurs organismes, dont les auxiliaires de la St-Brigid’s Home et la communauté de l’Église Catholique St-Patrick. Elle et Gaétan ont également été très impliqués dans la construction de l'Église catholique et de la communauté de St-Louis-de-France (Sainte-Foy, Québec). Elle a déménagé dans l'ouest de l'île de Montréal dans ses cinq dernières années.

La famille tient à exprimer son appréciation au personnel des services communautaires Jeffrey Hale (anciennement le Centre Holland) à Québec, Québec, pour avoir été une communauté si attentionnée pour la Lorraine pendant tant d'années, à ses aidantes, Christina Gauvin et Mireille Re-Belle Froment, qui lui ont permise de rester chez elle aussi longtemps qu'elle l'a fait, au personnel du Château Dollard, à Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Québec, qui lui a montré une affection chaleureuse et une attention dévouée, et au personnel de l’aile 4N à l'Hôpital général du Lakeshore pour avoir aidé ses derniers jours à être si paisibles et sereins malgré ces temps difficiles.

Lorraine sera inhumée au cimetière St-Patrick avec son bien-aimé Gaétan lors d’une cérémonie familiale privée à une date ultérieure. Elle a soutenu Médecins sans frontières si vous souhaitez lui faire un don ou, peut-être plus approprié, récolter une cuillère de votre crème glacée préférée en sa mémoire.
