I worked with Michael in Montreal from 2014 to 2017. I am really glad I got to know him and our paths crossed. I am so sorry for your loss. He always talked about his familly and how he was so proud of his kids. He was a great man.

I am so sorry to hear of Mikes passing.  Mike and I worked together as constables in "E" Division Commercial Crime in the late 1990's.  We played a lot of squash and every time I see a German Short Haired Pointer I still think of Mikes mountain biking stories with his dog .  Sadly, I never got to hear him play the accordion.  Rest in peace Mike.  You left great memories and foot prints wherever you traveled.

Je suis sous le choc et j'ai tellement de peine. J'ai eu le privilège de travailler comme adjointe en étroite collaboration avec Michael durant les 9 dernières années au GICT devenu SCN. Il m'a accueillie au sein de son équipe avec tant de générosité et de bonté. Il avait envers tous tant de respect et nous le respections tout autant. Toutes nos belles conversations...il me parlait très souvent de Marie-Claude et des enfants. Nous partagions souvent nos projets de retraite et du futur après la GRC. 

Michael, grâce à ton support, ton écoute et tes précieux conseils, je suis devenue une meilleure personne. Merci ! Michael pour ce cadeau ultime ! Je garderai toujours de toi un très beau souvenir.

Marie-Claude, Sebastien et Julia, sachez qu'il vous aimait tellement et qu'il était si fier de sa famille. Je partage votre peine immense et je prie, afin que vous puissiez recevoir l'énergie pour surmonter cette épreuve.

So very sad to hear of Mike's passing, he was a good man and it was a pleasure to work with him on the watch in Kelowna.  I will remember him very fondly. My condolences to Marie Claude and Mike's family.

My deepest condolences to the Haring family. 

I knew Michael for about 20 years when I joined the Tech Crime Unit in Ottawa in 2000.  He was always a pleasure to work with. When ever we spoke to each other over the phone, he always spoke about is family first and how proud he was of them. He loved to talk about his wife and kids.  And then he would forget why he called me.  

Michael was one of the most respected members in the tech crime and cybercrime field. He touched many people in his professional and personal life. I will miss him greatly as a colleague and friend. 

My prayers are with his family and friends.

Sincere condolences to Mike's family and close friends. I had the pleasure of getting to know Mike as a member of his "care" team.
Everything that could be done, was done over the years to keep him in his running shoes or on his bike. He was intense, and did not like the idea of slowing down. Mike you will be sorely missed and this all comes as a shock as you always pushed to the end. We will celebrate your life and will always remember your drive and kindness for others.    

I meet Mike in multiple meetings and discussions, He was always willing to help, responsible, sincere and serious in the job.

In the other had he was smiling and patiently explaining the matters he knows, with an optimistic point of view.

J’ai eu le plaisir et le privilège de collaborer avec Michael sur divers dossiers en lien avec la lutte contre la cybercriminalité pendant au moins dix ans. J’ai pu apprécier, durant ces années, sa haute compétence technique, sa vision, sa sagesse, son intelligence, son grand cœur et surtout son amitié. Michael a eu un impact très positif sur la formation des membres de mon groupe de recherche sur la cybersécurité à l’Université Concordia et aussi au sein de NCFTA Canada. Il a toujours eu les bons mots pour nous inspirer et nous guider dans nos activités de recherche et de développent. 

J’ai également hautement apprécié nos discussions sur le cyclisme et la technologie sous-jacente. J’ai beaucoup appris avec lui sur ce sujet.

Michael fut un grand collaborateur et un ami précieux. Ses contributions indéniables vont continuer de nous inspirer et de nous guider. Il restera à jamais dans nos cœurs et nos mémoires.

My sincere condolences to the family. 

I first met Mike in mid-2000’s as a fellow colleague in tech crime.  Although I did not have the privilege of working directly with Mike, his reputation as a leader among his peers was well known.  He was respected for his technical skills, his leadership, and his openness to help others.

When I reached out to Mike a few years ago to bring a few of my team members to visit his office to learn from their setup, he did not hesitate to accommodate my request.  He was glad to take time from his busy day to receive us and shared whatever he could to help his community of peers.

I hope that these stories about the positive impact that Mike had on so many people will provide your with some degree of comfort knowing that he was very well respected and admired by all who had the pleasure of meeting him.  









I met Mike when I joined the Tech Crime Unit back in 2001.  We worked closely together for many years, sharing an office.  I have many fond memories of my professional and personal friendship with Mike, his sage advice has had a positive lasting impact on my life.  

Mike was an avid cyclist.   His passion for cycling was contagious - maybe it was the constant playing of Le Tour de France while we worked in our office every year, or the clicking sound of his cycling shoes when he arrived at work.  He inspired me to build my own bike from scratch, so he guided me through the parts purchases and helped me put it all together in his garage.  Every time I ride my bike I think of Mike and always will.

Mike was a devoted husband and father.  He couldn't stop talking about his family, he loved them immensely, that was clear.   Marie-Claude, Seb and Julia, please accept my sincere condolences for your loss.

Mike touched the lives of everyone he met in subtle but sincere ways.  To my friend Mike, wherever you may be, rest in peace, you will not be forgotten.

I was shocked to hear of Michael's sudden passing, he was much too young and had many bright years left to enjoy in retirement  with his loved ones.

Through the years I have often worked with Michael in the Technological Crime and Cybercrime field. We have shared food, beers and stories in various  places. He was a good man, quiet and with quite a wealth of varied experiences. He will be sorely missed.

I send my sincerest condolences to his wife and children. May you be uplifted by the knowledge that your husband/dad has left a wealth of good memories behind. He will be remembered fondly by many.

Quel Grand bonhomme il était: simple et humain. Mike avait toujours le mot pour nous ramener sur terre face aux situations qui parfois nous semblaient  confuses ou complexes. Tous les gens qui le côtoyaient au QG,  ont eu la chance de vivre et partager des moments sincères  avec une personne honnête et franche. Dire les choses comme elles sont, sans ambiguïtés et les plus clair possible pour tous….sans exception.

Michael was a good friend of ours for a few years while he and Marie-Claude were posted in Kelowna, BC. I remember the days where Michael would help us with a few of our household projects, sometimes with a few bumps and bruises, but they all finished successfully. Michael was wonderful with our children - Lindsay, Tami and Christopher. Michael was often found playing Batman with Chris, he even had the Batman cape on once or twice. Michael will be missed, but will live on in our memories forever. 

I would like to extend my sincerest condolences to the Haring family.  I have known Michael since 2015 when I entered  the Cyber and Digital Forensics realm with the RCMP.  Since then he has been a great colleague and friend.  I have had beer in The Hague with Michael where he told me all about his service in the German military, schnitzel and sausages in Vienna where he got lost on a run and turned 5km into 16km, and not so great food many times at the CPC where he was brought for his insight on the development of the NC3.  Whenever we would meet up he always gave me an update on his family and I could hear in his voice and see on his face the pride he took in his family.   Michael was a wonderful man and is greatly missed by me and the many others who had the privilege to work with him or befriend him.   I am very sorry for your loss.  

I was both shocked and saddened to hear about Michael's sudden passing.  In the very short time that I got to know and work with Michael,  I recognized him as a very competent leader and extremely knowledgeable in the area of cybercrime.  This is a significant loss for his family and for the law enforcement  ommunity.  My sincerest condolences to his family. Michael will be missed.

I have worked with mike in the tech crime program for a lot of years now and was shocked and saddened by his passing. A good man who always answered a call for assistance. Thank you Michael for your service and your friendship.
