Rawle Greaves

March 11, 1960January 22, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Rawle on Wednesday, January 22, 2020. Beloved husband to Liane, wonderful father to Benjamin, Thomas and Matthew and devoted son of the late Gloria Greaves. He also leaves behind a big family that includes a brother, sisters and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Rawle was born in Barbados and came to Montreal with his brother Charles when he was 15. Despite the cold and snowy winters, he adjusted well and came to call it home. Rawle genuinely cared for those he came into contact with. With a jovial and friendly demeanour, he was always happy to have a friendly chat and discuss topics he was passionate about - be it cricket, politics, current events, cars or wherever else the conversation turned. He had a very calming presence and was always a source of encouragement and knowledge to family, friends and colleagues. Rawle will always be remembered for his warm smile, his laugh, his energy, and his love for family and friends. He will be dearly missed by so many whose lives he touched. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 30th and Friday, January 31st from 7-9 p.m. at the Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home, 222 Autoroute 20, Pointe-Claire, Quebec H9S 3X6 (Cartier and Highway 20). A celebration of Rawle’s life will be held on Saturday, February 1st at 11am at The Church of Saint John the Baptist, 233 Ave Sainte-Claire, Pointe Claire, Quebec H9S 4E3. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to The Heart and Stroke Foundation

Dearest Liane, Ben, Thomas and Matthew,

My deepest sympathy to you.

Rawle was a true Bajan gem.
He never lost the love for his beloved birth place and he made sure that you guys got to enjoy and share in that love with him.

I will never forget our childhood games and the conversations and visits we had during adulthood.

Rawle was well read and it was always enlightening to have a conversation or quiet debate with him.

He will be forever missed by his aunt Shelia, uncle Orville and all of us.

Sleep in peace my brother in the arms of Jesus.

Dearest Rawle,

I will miss complaining about the weather to you.
I will miss showing off my latest cocktail drinks.
I will miss discussing our young teeny boppers.
I will miss discussing those Canadian bank holidays.
But most of all, I will miss you.

Your gentle teasing of my opinions always made me smile. I thought we would have brother and sister time in our senior years so that we could have face to face debates, but that was not meant to be. Rest in peace dear brother until we meet again.

Our sincere condolences to Liane, Benjamin, Thomas, Matthew and family at this sad time.

Love, Joycelyn, Ian and Francesca

Rawle was a great uncle to me and my brother.

Uncle Rawle was the one who thought me how to be responsible at a young age by giving me and my brother tasks around the house whenever we visit. I am grateful for that trait, because it made me into the man I am today.

Hearing him pass away was a shock. I was in denial to believe such a great man leaving us.

My condolences to his wife Liane and his sons Benjamin, Thomas and Matthew.

I can still remember the first time that I met Rawle. My mother took me to Canada when I was two or three years old. I don't remember much about the trip but I never forget my first and lasting impression of him: He was patient, gentle and caring and always able to get his points in an eloquent manner.

Years later, I happily observed and admired the love and devotion that he demonstration to his family who were his greatest treasure.

My deepest condolences to you Liane, Ben, Matthew and Thomas. I pray that God will comfort you during this time.
