Ruth Lucille (Alexander) Thurston

This is the notice I never wanted to write.

On July 15th, at the age of 97, Mom passed away suddenly, but peacefully, at the Lakeshore General Hospital in Pointe Claire QC.

Mom was predeceased by her husband Harvey and daughter Wendy (Schmeszle) . She is survived by her son Edward ( Laura), grandson Charles Thurston, son-in-law Christopher Schmeszle and grandchildren Ember (Tim McKillop), Adam (Mary) Schmeszle and Mason (Sabrina) Schmeszle and six great-grandchildren as well as cousins here and overseas.

Her ashes will be interred with Dad's, who has waited patiently the past 10 years, at the Field of Honour in Pointe Claire, QC, at a time and date to follow.

The service will be live streamed. Information on the service, visitation and interment will be posted on the website of the funeral home Collins Clarke MacGillivary White in Pointe-Claire, QC.

Mom had a book with many pages of names, addresses and phone numbers of friends and family. Sadly, many had been crossed out as time catches up to us all, but it was a Godsend for me.

Mom can now hug Dad, who she loved so much, and Wendy, who was taken from all of us too soon. She always complained to me that caring for her was a burden but it never ever was or could ever be.

She was my Mother.

Hello all,

Grandma (Ruth) was always adamant to make sure we were cared for when visiting. No matter her age, she always needed to make sure sweet were within reach and tea was hot.

Grandma was always a joy to visit. We will forever remember the card game "frustration" thanks to you for getting everyone to play.

I will miss you grandma.

And to Ted, thank you for taking care for so long.

Mom ment a lot to me. On her 97th birthday, just two weeks before she died, I gave her a card that says it all:

Mom, you're the best
I want to say thank you-
For raising me.
For my happy childhood.
For standing back and turning me loose
For letting me make my mistakes
For helping me clean up my messes.
For loving me that much.
For deftly balancing just what I wanted
and just what I needed.
For birthdays, holidays, and
unforgettable every days.
For treats...just because.
For being on my side.
For putting me in my place when I was
For putting me in a better place
anytime I'm down.
For making it all better......and I do mean
For being my mom.
For being my friend.
For being the best.

I love you.

Say Hi to Dad and Wendy, I love and miss you all.
