It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our Dad, Stan Darlow. Devoted husband to the late Maureen Doheny for 42 years. Incredible Dad to Meaghan (Ricky) and Shannon. Absolute best Poppa to Piper and Declan. Loving son to Daisy (née Pate) and the late Stan Sr. Cherished big brother to Scott (Agi) and Robin, brother-in-law to Brenda (Bill) and Arlene (Tom) and Uncle Stan to many nieces and nephews. Pre deceased by his mother and father-in-law Frances and Patrick Doheny.
Although he was the strong, silent type, Stan was never lost for some words of wisdom or a sarcastic remark that had the whole room laughing. Growing up in a big Scottish clan, Stan was a natural storyteller. Favourites to tell were the tales of the old days up at Manitou or the infamous Father’s Day weekend.
A lifelong athlete, Stan was always playing sports. He most loved playing hockey (a legend between the pipes) and golf and in later years fell in love with curling and life at Glenmore. He was a history buff, enjoyed a classic western and a cold drink on a hot summer’s day (after making sure his lawn was immaculate).
A jack of all trades, Stan had many jobs throughout his life. He could do anything and fix everything. The job he loved the most, however, was being a family man. He was the most amazing Dad but was most proud to be called “Poppa”.
Our sincere thanks to the K8 and K1 ICU staff at the Jewish General hospital. Every nurse, doctor and PAB we came across was so kind and compassionate. They took such exceptional care of Dad and were so supportive of us. Michele Gouthro, you are an angel.
Our family will not be holding a service at this time but will have a send-off some time in the spring.
Dad, we wish we didn’t have to say goodbye so soon. You will always be The Man, The Myth, The Legend.
Rest easy, Da, we love you with all our hearts ♥️ xoxoxo
