On September 18th 2020, Una O’Donoghue Murphy left us. She died as she lived – courageously, gently and surrounded by love. She lived a full and beautiful life and the many deep, loving and meaningful relationships that she is leaving behind are a testament to that. The family is grateful to so many friends and relations who have reached out and shared their thoughts, photos and memories of their wonderful times with Una. The Queen of Hospitality, it is sad that at this time we are unable to gather to honour and celebrate her life. When conditions permit, we look forward to welcoming one and all to a celebration befitting of such a great lady. There are many people to thank – for the cards that were sent, the phone calls and visits, the flowers and offers of help during her final days. We wish to thank the CLSC, St-Louis-Du-Parc, Palliative home-care team for their extraordinary dedication and love, especially Dr. Nina Benoit for her unwavering presence and support, and Nurse Lynn Vézina for her attentive care and beautiful serenity so appreciated by our mother. Our Mum enjoyed a close friendship with Reverend Paula Kline and she deeply appreciated the spiritual guidance she received from Paula in her final days. We are also very grateful to her caregivers, Denise and Cheryl, who attended to our Mum with kindness and love, as well as to Ann, her beloved niece, and to Jia, her pixie, both of whom cared for her in special ways throughout the years. Una will be laid to rest in Mt. Royal cemetery beside her beloved husband, Arthur John Murphy. Go n-éirí an bóthar leat, sweet Una. You will live in our hearts forever. Your loving children Michael, Angela, Patricia and Gerald.
In lieu of flowers, you are invited to make a donation in Una’s memory to Montreal City Mission (http://www.montrealcitymission.org/) or to the West Island Palliative Care Unit (https://residencesoinspalliatifs.com/en/)
