Simeon, as he was known by all who knew and loved him, was born on December 4, 1933 to the late Virgil and Merilia Simeon, née Fanord in Bahon, Haiti. Simeon is survived by his children: Alix, Ogive, Manouchka and their children; his sister Anne Marie Montpremier, née Simeon, her children and grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law Vilus and Anide Simeus, their children and grandchild. Simeon is predeceased by his older sister Aglantine Blaise, née Simeon; his longtime partner Eugenie Innocent.
From the time Simeon immigrated from The Bahamas, he worked and lived in Miami-Dade County. In 2014, following several health scares and a dementia diagnosis, Simeon relocated to Broward County to be closer to family.
One could use many adjectives to describe Simeon’s life from his days at a utilities plant in Grand Bahamas to a multitude of large construction projects across South Florida there was one common thread – hard work. His work ethic was enviable. After retiring from construction, Simeon drove a taxi cab around Miami for many years. When it came to having fun he worked just as hard. Many Fridays nights were reserved for “anba tonel” where good friends gathered around griot, lambi, and Barbancourt, to discuss politics – Haitian and American – with gusto.
Among family and friends he was known for his keen intellect, razor sharp wit, dancing skills and as a sharp dresser. As the eldest son, Simeon took on the awesome responsibility of caring for his family in Haiti. The ability to care for his siblings, all of his nieces and nephews along with his children was a great source of pride. The many lessons we’ve learned from Simeon – our brother, father, uncle, and friend – will never be forgotten.
We remain forever grateful for his hard work, loyalty, dedication to family. May he rest in Eternal Peace.
