Art was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 25, 1934, to John and Lillian Hofmeyer. He married Charlotte Czarnota on November 12, 1965, in Redford Township Michigan. He was a graduate of the University of Detroit where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration. He held a variety of roles in manufacturing industries, most notably multiple management positions for Abitibi-Price/ABTCo during the last 20 years of his career. He was an active member of North Star Sail Club in Harrison Twp, MI, and the Power Squadron in Birmingham, MI. He was involved in the Power Squadron in Pompano Beach for many years after relocating to Florida in 1997, and was a member of the St Gabriel’s Men’s Club. He was a caring husband, amazing father. He was always working on a project or planning the next adventure. He had a zest for life with a variety of hobbies and interests including being a licensed home builder. He loved the water and enjoyed all types of sailing and boating as well as scuba diving and kayaking. When on land, he continued many other activities until late in life including woodworking, model trains, downhill skiing, biking, domestic and international travel, and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by parents John M. and Lillian Hofmeyer, brother John E. Hofmeyer, and sisters Norine and Mary Ann Hofmeyer.
He is survived by his wife of more than 58 years Charlotte Hofmeyer, children John C. (Cara) Hofmeyer, Laura (Tom) Discenna, and Mark (Marcela Ferrada) Hofmeyer, and grandchildren Jessica, Krysta and Tommy Hofmeyer, Thomas Discenna and Sophia Hofmeyer plus a host of cousins, nieces and family members.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 5 to 8 PM on Monday, June 10, 2024, at Kraeer Funeral Home 200 West Copans, Pompano Beach, FL. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Gabriel, 731 N Ocean Blvd, Pompano Beach, FL on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 10:00 am. Arrangements are by Kraeer Funeral Home.
