

BARBARA ANNE GUNTHER MCMENAMY Barbara Anne Gunther McMenamy of Fort Lauderdale, Florida died Monday, April 21, 2014 at 2:22 a.m. just after Easter Sunday, surrounded by her immediate family. Born on June 15, 1935, in Saint Louis, Missouri, Mrs. McMenamy was the daughter of Gerard Keane Gunther and Celeste Hirshman Gunther. Her husband, Gregory Brian McMenamy, survives. Other survivors include her daughter, Madeleine Marie Slattery, son-in-law John Patrick Slattery of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, granddaughter Kerry Slattery of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Colleen Slattery of Gainesville, Florida; daughter Anne McMenamy of Steubenville, Ohio, grandson Kyle Adams of Austin, Texas and granddaughter Meagan Adams of Georgetown, Texas; son Gregory B. McMenamy, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, daughter-in-law Audrey Hill McMenamy, granddaughter Morgan Elizabeth McMenamy and grandson Murphy O’Meara McMenamy of Atlanta, Georgia; daughter Mary Kathleen Bohman of Batesville, Indiana, son-in-law Timothy Alan Bohman, and grandson Carter Edwin Bohman of Batesvile, Indiana. A 1952 graduate of Saint Joseph’s Academy in Saint Louis, Missouri, Mrs. McMenamy went on to graduate from Maryville College in 1957 with a major in education. On October 12, 1957, she married Gregory B. McMenamy and the couple celebrated their fifty-sixth wedding anniversary this past October with family and friends. Always supportive and loving, Mrs. McMenamy wore a perpetual and contagious smile. Her family remembers her as a devoted wife and mother who selflessly cared for them and who had an endless capacity for sacrifice for her family and community. Mrs. McMenamy was a teacher for eighteen years at Saint Coleman’s School where she taught the kindergarten and third grades. At Saint Coleman’s Church, Mrs. McMenamy was a faithful Eucharistic minister for over twenty-five years. She gave her time to countless charitable organizations where she offered her boundless talents to helping those in need. On Friday, May 2, 2014 at 12 p.m. (noon) a memorial Mass will be held at Saint Coleman’s Catholic Church located at 1200 S. Federal Highway, Pompano Beach, Florida and a reception will follow. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Saint Louis, Missouri next to her beloved daughter, Mary Celeste McMenamy at a later date.
