Charles C. (“Chuck”) Connors, 77, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida went to heaven on May 22, 2018 surrounded by his wife and family. He is survived by his wife Maryann, sons Charles Jr., Christopher and Matthew, stepson Michael Reff , stepdaughter Noel LoRusso, sister, Lillian Martin, grandchildren: Danielle, Carley and Nicolette Reff, Eva Grace and Otto Connors and many loved nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. He was proceeded in death by his brothers John and James.
Chuck was born in Akron, Ohio, on November 27, 1940, one of five children to parents James H. Connors and Lillian (Neville) Connors. He graduated from Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio in 1959 where he was a good student and actively participated in athletics, particularly excelling in wrestling. He later attended the University of Miami (FL).
After college he served in the U.S. Army where he was a member of the 101st Airborne Division and the 10th Special Forces Group. After his Honorable Discharge from the Army, Chuck was employed for many years by the Florida Power and Light Company. After leaving FPL he worked for several large contractors on projects ranging from the 1980s expansion of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to the rebuilding of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
Chuck was involved in both his church and political activities and devoted his later years volunteering at Americans for Prosperity. He was well liked by many who appreciated his warm demeanor, gentle soul, quick wit, and great conversation. His favorite role in his later years was as a doting grandpa to his five loving grandchildren and gardening and his greenhouse.
A Celebration of Chuck's life with a Catholic mass will be held on June 15, 2018 at Saint Sebastian Catholic Church, 2000 Marietta Drive, Fort Lauderdale at 4pm. There will be a reception honoring Chuck's life immediately following the ceremony in the social hall at church. Flowering Orchids to live in his greenhouse, can be sent to the church or home. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Americans for Prosperity, Florida would be appreciated as he was also a secret donor.
