Claudius Franklin 'Bud' Poland, 97, of Coral Springs, FL went home to be with his Father on March 27, 2020. He was born in Waynesboro, PA on March 17, 1923, the son of Claudius E. and Dorothea B. Poland. He grew up in rural Louden County, VA and graduated from Aldie High School. He was a student at Virginia Tech when WWII started but chose to serve his country and enlisted in the Navy as an Aviation Cadet. After completion of training he was stationed in the Philippines. After the war, he returned to school and graduated with a Bachelor degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1949. He worked for the USDA in Raleigh, NC where he met and married his wife Alice. The Navy recalled him to active duty in 1957 and he served as a flight instructor at NAS Pensacola, FL until 1960. Bud then returned to the USDA working in Kentucky and Indiana. He retired in 1986 and moved to Florida. He returned to work with Craig A. Smith Engineers for 20 years.
He is survived by Alice, his wife of 67 years, son Eugene Poland, daughter Karen Applegate and sister Lydia Spindle. He was preceded in death by brothers Paul and Curtis Poland and sister Elizabeth Lee. He is interred in the South Florida National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
