Daphne C. Newman

A Memorial Service will be held on February 6th at 3:00 pm at Kraeer Funeral Home at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 200 West Copans Rd, Pompano Beach. FL 33064. Service will be livestreamed.

Daphne Carol Newman was born in St. Catherine, Jamaica to Gustace Adalfus Hobbs and Dorothy Elizabeth Jones on July 13, 1937. She was a seamstress in her early years in Jamaica and England. She married Vivian Ira Newman in London, England in 1962. In 1967, Vivian and Daphne migrated to Toronto, Canada and in 1970 she became a licensed practical nurse. To escape the cold weather, Vivian and Daphne migrated again to sunny South Florida in 1985. Daphne was a lover of animals and loved her pets Frisky, Spanky, and Chip immensely, all preceded in death.

Daphne is preceded in death by her husband, Vivian Newman, her daughters, Lorna Ferguson and Valerie Bridgewater, her parents Gustace Hobbs and Dorothy Orrett, and her sister Veronica Baccus.

Daphne is survived by her brothers; Patrick Orrett and Lincoln Orrett, Jr, her sisters; Diana Fisher and Sheila Wischer, her grandchildren; Cheryle Higgins, Simone Laylor, Errol Gordon, and Andre Ferguson, her great grandchildren; Leslie-Ann Laylor, Teasha-Ann Laylor, Jaheim Gordon, Ryan Johnson, Shamari Ferguson, and Amelia Gordon, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends.

We will always remember Daphne for her soft spoken and sweet nature, her kindness and strength. She loved the Lord and may she rest in eternal peace. We love you Nana.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the American Heart Association in honor of Daphne.
