Dominick J. LaMantia, of Lauderdale By the Sea, FL, passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2018. Dominick was born on August 27, 1925 to Santo and Josephine LaMantia in Brooklyn, NY and had two younger brothers, Andrew and Lorenzo. Dominick joined the Navy on November 12, 1943 and served until February 22, 1947. While in the Navy, he fought in WWII aboard the USS Hancock, receiving many awards including: WWII Victory Medal; American Campaign Medal and an Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 bronze stars. He also received a Combat Action Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 bronze stars and a Philippine Presidential Unit Citation. In 1947 Dominick received an Honorable Discharge as a Seaman Second Class V-6. Dominick Married Gloria Flanagan on November 12th, 1949. They were blessed with 6 sons, Daniel, Robert, Michael, Brian, Patrick, and Sean. He worked for the City of New York Department of Sanitation for over 20 years. Dominick spent time in New York and in Florida as a “snow bird” eventually moving to Florida full time. Dominick enjoyed his 6 sons, 8 Grandchildren, and 2 Great Grandchildren.
He belonged to the Knights of Columbus in New York and the American Legion in Pompano Beach. He always wanted to party and go away on vacation. He loved being surrounded by his family and friends. He was proud of his country and loved his Johnny Walker Blue. He was vibrant and full of life until the very end. He will be loved, missed, and remembered fondly by all who knew him.
