On October 9, 1918 Evelyn Hendricks was born to Christopher and Janetta Hibbert in Dallas Castle, Saint Andrews, Jamaica, West Indies. Evelyn attended Dallas Castle Elementary School and received twelve years of formal education. She then relocated to Kingston where she worked for a period of time after learning to be a seamstress. There she met her husband, George Hendricks and they were married in 1940 until he passed away in 1992. That union produced five children; Neville, Blondel, Leon, Errol and Pamela.
After marriage Evelyn went on to work at the Central Police Station in Kingston as one of the office staff. She later relocated to the United States in 1961 where she resided in New York City. While there she completed classes to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). She worked two jobs for many years; as a dietary aide at Montefiore Medical Center and as a CNA at Morning Side Home. For three consecutive years she received many awards from both facilities.
In 1967 her family relocated from Jamaica to New York to join her. After spending many years in New York City, George and Evelyn retired and relocated to South Florida in 1984. Evelyn was a member of Abundant Life Church from 1984 to 1992. In 1993, Evelyn found Gateway Church and has been a devoted member ever since. Evelyn volunteered in the preschool and different areas where needed in the church.
Evelyn was diagnosed with diabetes about the age of 38. As she aged it became uncontrollable and she eventually became a double amputee and lost several digits of fingers. But throughout her struggles with her health she continued to praise and glorify God.
Evelyn leaves to mourn four children, thirteen grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
Evelyn lived a full life. She was a self-taught pianist, seamstress, encourager, educator, a person who strongly believed in love, family and God.
