Herb Burton Finkelstein, 78, of West Palm Beach passed away on April 22, 2019. Herb was born in Brooklyn, NY to Sam and Dinah Finkelstein on January 13, 1941. After graduating from Forrest Hills High School in Queens, NY he was determined to become a printer until he realized that he was allergic to the ink used in the printing process. To his mother’s shock, he instead joined the United States Army where he proudly served for several years. After leaving the Army, Herb moved from New York to Miami Beach where he worked in the entertainment industry managing many comedians, singers, and bands in the late1960s and early 1970s. After meeting Claudine Chaussee at his birthday party in January of 1973, they started dating and eventually married on April 17, 1975 in Miami, FL. After the birth of his son, Andrew, he left the entertainment industry and became a salesman for Rockower Brothers, a store manager for Wilco, owned a carpet cleaning business called Carpet Plus, and ultimately became a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, where he worked for over 21 years until he retired in 2007. After retiring from the Postal Service, Herb was actively involved in his condominium association board at Century Village, the Italian American Club and the United Civic Organization (UCO).
Herb loved watching old movies, traveling, discussing current events (especially politics) and spending time with his friends and family (especially his three grandchildren). Personally, “Herbie” was a much-loved man who offered friendship and respect to all. His stories entertained many and his smile and laughter made him the life of the party. He was not afraid to show his emotions and communicate his love for people. His warm embrace comforted many and will certainly be missed. When faced with a challenge, he often quoted his hero, John Wayne, “A mans got to do what a mans got to do.” He was a loving father, husband, son, father-in-law, grandfather, and friend. Our family will miss him every day and will continue his legacy of strength and loyalty.
Herb is preceded in death by his father Sam Finkelstein and his mother Dinah Finkelstein. He is survived by his wife, Claudine Finkelstein, his son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Shelby Finkelstein and his grandchildren, Ella, Oliver and Hazel Finkelstein.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Kraeer Funeral Home, 200 W. Copans Road, Pompano Beach, FL 33064 with Rabbi Kaplan officiating. Burial will follow.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to our dearest friends and family.
