Mrs. Lane had a long and distinguihed career with the Justice Department in Washington, D.C where she held an executive position with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. She attended the University of Nebraska and later took law school classes in Washington, D.C.
After her retirement Mrs. Lane became a certified genealogist and wrote an 850 page genealogy, John Hawks, A Founder of Hadley, Massachusetts, which won an award from the Connecticut Society of Genealogists as the best New England genealogy of the year. She was national Vice-President of the National Society, Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America; President and Registrar of Chapter XIX, Colonial Dames of America; and a member of many other societies, including Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Daughters of the Seventeenth Century, and Daughters of Colonial Wars. She is also listed in Who’s Who of American Women.
Mrs. Lane was predeceased by her husband, Harry, and is survived by surrogate daughter, Marsha Love of Delray Beach; nephews Dr. Wayne Hawks of Columbia, MO and Dean Hawks of Colleyville, TX;, niece, Jane Gehrking of Fountain, MN, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are being handled by Kraeer at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Mt. Vernon Hotel Museum and Garden, 417-421 East 61st Street, New York, NY 10021.
