I'm sitting here wondering how someone that was so full of life and having fun, could pass away? Especially at the age of 55? I mean really!  My condolences to Judy and the rest of Jerry's family..... 

Jerry and I were together for a while.... then we remained friends.... Holidays we exchanged cards, when I was in the area, I would stop by.... we'd catch up..... I saw him only a month or two before he passed.... I still don't under stand..... 

He will be remembered! Jerry baruch dayan haemet. May his memory be a blessing to us all. 

I'm Andrea from Italy, for me Jerry was more than a friend he was a brother and an example. Sorry for delay on writing in this form, i fount the tragic information only today. I was ....  because all the Crhistmas since 30 years i got a card from jerry, but not this year...... i can't believe it !!! Please someone of his close friend or the family can you let me know what appened, I've his last mail on 24 april 2012 .....  My love to alla the people that loved Jerry, all of us are very luky because we can say HE was a part of my life. I also remember my trip in the USA we travel from FL to the new jersei and i meet the Jerry's brother (or sister) family. I'm sorry I  lost being in touch with Jerry.  He was a good guy.  It shocks me that he is gone. I'll always remember visiting his cabin in Murphy N.C.   Hope he finished it and got to enjoy it for many years!  Let his passing be a reminder to us all about appreciating the times and people we call friends now while we can!

I met Jerry when I was 15 and moved to Dayton Beach. He was always so easy-going and easy to get along with. Those nights when we all hung out by the beach or the nights we all went to the concerts were so much fun. I cherish all those memories.

To Jerry's mother Judy and the rest of his family - I pray that God comforts you during your sadness. Know that Jerry touched and enriched the lives or so many people and he lives on in our hearts and minds forever and ever.

Jerry, I'm sorry we hadn't seen you for so long. You were a wonderful friend and one hell of a nice guy. Reading all the entries here, especially from your former pupils, brought tears to my eyes. You certainly did live life to the full. You were much loved and will be sadly missed. Much love to you, Jerry... always.

If you ever went to a concert or baseball game with Jerry he always wanted to have the front row seat. That's the way he wanted to experience life,from the front row seat. Every event, encounter or relationship had to be up close, with all the details and all the sensations. Whether you knew him for a year or 30 years, you knew him. In what seems a short 55 years he already lived several life spans. Since you retired, I miss your text messages with an attached picture of your feet propped up and a scenic view in the background. I will miss not having you visit my future home in Costa Rica that we were both looking forward to. You will always be a part of who I am. While I am still allowed to continue on this journey, I will do my best to experience it from the front row seat.

You were my best friend of 33 years.  Wow, it does not seem like that long ago.  I love you with all my heart.  Thanks for all the wonderful memories and all the good times. I went to the beach today and thought about Jerry jogging. He loved the ocean and I know he left us all doing what he loved. He will be missed at Crown Colony for all he did for others and especially his wonderful smile and sense of humor. Jerry lived life to the fullist which is more than I can say for most of us. 
I am sure Jerry is in Heaven singing and making others happy.

When Carlin e-mailed me from Ireland to tell of your passing, I was completely shocked ... and deeply saddened!  Even though it's been several years since she and Reese had you as their PE teacher, we've always had special memories of your classes, field days, and friendship.  Thank you for the fun and games ... and everlasting smile :-)

You will be missed and thanks for installing the super remote light switch in my house. Every time it goes on I will think of our friendship

My heart reaches out to you on the passing of Jerry. I feel so fortunate to have had the chance to work with Jerry and was so very sad to hear of his passing. Jerry was an inspiration to so many lives, both children and adults. I will always remember him as a welcoming, upbeat, friendly, fun, and funny person. I had always wished he would have put off his retirement for just a couple more years (and I even suggested it, but was unsuccessful) so my daughter could experience his amazing talents as an educator and his loving nature as a person. I always enjoyed talking with Jerry at work &  always think of him when I am in the North Carolina Mountains, as we both would talk about our love of it there. Jerry May you rest in peace. Your memory will forever live on and you'll always be remembered as such a wonderful, fun-loving man. You will be missed by so many.

I finally had the opportunity to tell both the boys of your passing.  Even though we moved away four years ago, the reaction from the boys was exactly as I knew it would be:  Shock and sadness.  You made such an impact on both Bryan and Jacob.  They loved you and how much you talked sports with them!   All of the students at Sunrise Park admired you! You left them with an abundance of wonderful memories!  You were not only a teacher to them but a friend to me.  Your smile and laughter will be deeply missed.

I remember the first day I met Jerry. I came to sunrise Park to sub for Marcelle Lopez and was running around with the kids at recess, and then Jerry said, my goodness, you have so much energy. Do you sub for P.E.? ….and I said of course, and I became his special sub for P.E. Soon I was doing interim long term subbing and Jerry and I formed a special bond of friendship. We had a lot of talks and shared some laughter too.
 Jerry and Marcelle were the only 2 teachers at Sunrise who wrote fabulous letters of recommendation for me some years ago that I still have, and I remember Jerry saying , “We have to get you here at Sunrise man, you're amazing with those kids.” Actually he's the one who brought out the BEST in those kids. He surely did….he sparkled, he was a ray of sunshine, always smiling!
 
A few weeks ago, Jerry came to my classroom especially to visit me. No one knew that this was us saying our goodbyes. I remember telling him that he looked 20 years younger….he looked so fresh, so relaxed and happy. He looked like a surfer dude. We laughed a lot and he said to me before he walked away, “Hey Jamaican girl(he always called me that), never change who you are, your enthusiasm should be bottled and sold…..you're still the same happy-go-lucky girl, I just love it!” We hugged and bid each other goodbye....and now he's gone~
 We will meet again in that beautiful place as souls and share some more laughs for sure.

Mr. Saporta, you were ,without a doubt, my favorite PE teacher of all time. I met you in 1st grade and i just now finished my freshmen year in college. I remember even being in 5th grade talking to about where i would want to go to college. Hahaha i remember throwing up in the middle of your class in the first grade too and you being shocked and not knowing what to do. I remember even visiting you while i was in Eagles since it was right next door and I'll always remember how you used to tell me i looked just like your niece. You really cared about all of us and made PE enjoyable. You will truly be missed by all of your students.

Mr. Saporta. You were one of the most amazing people and teachers I've ever met. You were always there for me as someone I could come and talk to. Going to your gym class was my favorite part of the day.I will never forget your wonderful smile you gave every time you saw me and how you always smelled like sunscreen. Hahah. You were such a great person. You were always so nice to me and you truly cared.  Ever since I started singing you always told me I would sing country music. I HATED country music and I always thought you were crazy. It's funny because now I sing and write country music. You always knew me better than i knew myself. I wish I came back and visited you more after my brother left sunrise. I'm so mad that I didn't. I'm graduating High School now. I was thinking about you a couple of weeks ago and told myself that I had to see you before I left for college. I can't believe I won't ever see you again. I hope you're in heaven partying hard and looking down to see all the people that love you and miss you. You've touched so many lives and I'm still in disbelief that you're gone. Jay and Family,  I as so happy that I was able to meet Jerry and spend time with him recently when he came to California to visit.  I treasure that time.

He helped out with our school garden and when he was retiring he wanted no real recognition for all of his contributions to sunrise park. I dated and lived with jerry for all of last year, we spent 24 7 togetehr. he was my everything.. he was an amazing man who loved me very much and would do anything for a friend. i feel  i knew jerry the most these past year or two and i can tell you all he always enjoyed life and would do anything for a friend. this will be my biggest loss ever in my life, he was all i had. he took care of me and i would not be here without him.. he was my angel and i will never forget his love for not only me but all of his friends. i love you jerry.thank you for always being there for me and thank you for taking me up to the mountains, i will miss you jerrybomb. you will be with me forever. i love you.

To the Saporta Family: I never met Jerry, but as a friend of Jay's I heard a lot about Jerry. If Jerry was 1/2 the person that Jay described he was an amazing guy who will be very much missed by his many friends and loving family.

You always were positive even when I missed that turkey. You said, Hey man at least you were able to get a shot off. Now you are the new turkey in HEAVEN. I plan to see you again but not too soon!!!! Love you MAN.

We always had such fun together at parties, the Marlins-Phillies games and the races here in Daytona. I will miss you immensely.
