

John L. Van Hezewyk, 84, of Pompano Beach, Florida, formerly of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, was carried away by angels on March 20, 2015. He was born in Toronto on December 11, 1930 to John G. Van Hezewyk and Vivian Latz. He loved music, primates, computers, cars, boats, dogs, and horses. John's love of wild animals brought him to be the Monkdad of Charlie, Susie, Koko, Mico, Mickey, Cookie, Heidi, and Suzy Q. John was a member of the U.S. Navy League - Fort Lauderdale Council, and was a part of Broward Navy Days. He was professionally appreciated by fellow musicians as an accomplished accordian and keyboard player. In his spare time, John enjoyed flying his Tripacer, cruising on his father's yacht, and volunteering. He was preceded in death by his parents, and aunts and uncles. John is survived by his beloved soulmate, Gayle, with whom he spent 60 wonderful years; children, Reynold, Bob, Nancy, and Kimberly; grandchildren, Kylene, Nicole, Emma, and Jessica; great-grandchild, Xavier; sister, Anita; and nephew, John. He will also be dearly missed by his Canadian friends Oscar and Margurita. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 24, 2015 from 5pm until 8pm, with Funeral Service on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 11am, both at Forest Lawn North Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, 200 West Copans Road, Pompano Beach, Florida 33064. Funeral Service will be officiated by Father Harry Ringenberger and Father Jerry Morris of Saint Pius X Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in John's name to Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary, 13915 North State Road 121, Gainesville, Florida 32653.
