Thinking of you Mrs. Seifert- you were such a good friend to our mom and she has many memories of you!

I will always remember her dear, sweet smile and her generous nature. She was a special person to so many. What a tribute to her that when thinking of her- we smile.

I worked for George and Walter for a few years and got to meet Josephine a few times and found her to be very genuine and as Walter said very classy. I hooked them both up with a letter from the president in congratulations for there 50 th wedding anniversary . God bless you George I miss those days

My mother in law, whom I simply called Mom, was a gentle and classy lady that displayed this every day.

I think I learned more from Mom, than I have learned from most people in my life time. So what did I learn?

Her gentleness.
Mom taught me that gentleness is really just a combination of kindness and calm.  Mom had a soft nature of how she acted when she was around other people.  She inspired me to  "Go softly, slowly, and sweetly" into every day.

Her untiring love
As I grew older, I  became aware of just how much Mom sacrificed for her family over the years.  She was the glue and the anchor that held the family together.  Through her unselfish love, she was a constant reminder for us to always display love and respect to each other.

Her faith in God.
Mom  prayed regularly to God for the well beings of all her loved ones.  She motivated me to become as fervent as she was in my prayer life.

Her relationship with me.
They say, when you marry a woman, you are also marrying her family.  Mom showed me that no matter what happened, she would always love me, right up until the end.  I was told that she would ask Kim during her hospital visits, "Where is Walt?" I will always hold that loving question, near and dear in my heart.

Mom, I could never ever hope to express just how much appreciation I hold in my heart for you. You have helped me in the toughest of times, and you have celebrated by my side in the best of times.  I could not have asked for a more loving, caring and warm-hearted mother in law. 

This is just a temporary good bye Mom, for I know that we will meet again when the time comes, for me to meet our Lord and Savior.

I love you, Mom.  I miss you every single day.

Grandma, 

I miss you. You were my favorite person in this family. I have different memories with you. You would call me each holiday just to wish me a happy holiday. As a kid, I spent a lot of time with you. We would go to Lucille's pool, you sent me to Summer camp and I would sleepover at your house.  You came to grandparents day at St Paul..You always told me to say hi to Papa when I came over. You always wanted a card for the holidays. Last Christmas I gave you a bunch of Christmas cards with a piece of chocolate taped to most of them and you were happy....happy with simple cards.  You always, always wanted the republican candidate to win. You wanted the family to get along.😪

You were a kind soul with a beautiful heart. I miss you so much and wish I could talk to you on the phone again.

Even when you were sick/ at the end of your life, you still had a good attitude.

Please watch over this family from Heaven and keep us safe and healthy.

My mother could make anyone feel good just by walking in the room.  She had a beautiful light around her that made you feel loved and special.  For me, my greatest memories were our daily phone chats as we did quick catch up's to ensure we both were in a good place to start and end our day.  Mom loved me unconditionally, in her eyes, I could do no wrong, and she supported me in all my endeavors.  Both my parents provided me with a strong start to life and I am so grateful to have experienced a long term close parent-daughter relationship.  Mom loved animals and we share that passion.  Definitely blessed to have had many vacation memories!  Mom's favorite was our girls trip to Australia where she held the koala bear shown in her picture.  Before she took ill, she had wanted to experience a safari in South Africa,.. I'm sure you've traveled from heaven.  Mom, love and miss you lots and lots!!! My mom taught me some of life’s most important lessons. And she did so in an unique, but powerful way. Rarely,  did she preach a specific message or compel me to act in a certain manner. Rather, my mom inspired and influenced me through her actions. With her words she was humble and caring.  In her actions she was bold and powerful.

The first lesson my mom taught me was the power of belief. During my entire life, she reiterated one thing: her absolute belief in me. She trusted and believed I would make the right decisions and accomplish anything I set my mind to. By believing in me with full confidence and trust, she cultivated the belief within me that I could do anything. She created the belief that drives me today. 

The second lesson my mom taught me was the power of compassion. She was the most compassionate person I have ever known. My mom embodied this understanding of compassion. She listened without judgment. She gave without expectation. She helped out because it was the right thing to do. She was honest because there was no other way to be.

The third lesson my mom taught me was the power of authenticity. She was an authentic person.  She didn’t stand behind the restrictive social walls we all like to build. If she wanted to say or do something, she did. Instead of judging people, she sought to understand them.  Fortunately, my mom taught me how to live authentically and be comfortable with that.  Because of her, I now embrace difference. I choose courage over comfort.   
My mother's life and death taught me to focus on what really matters. We can glide past the petty frustrations of daily life, live the story that brings us immense joy and spend our finite time with the people we love.  Of course, I’m going to miss her so much.  But I know she will always be with me.  Her belief, compassion, and authenticity will always be by my side and in my heart.   
For that, I am deeply grateful. Thanks mom. I will always love You.


Poem for Josie,
One night I dreamed a dream. As I was walking along the beach with my Lord. Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, One belonging to me and one to my Lord.
After the last scene of my life flashed before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I noticed that at many times along the path of my life, especially at the very lowest and saddest times, there was only one set of footprints.
This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it. "Lord, you said once I decided to follow you, You'd walk with me all the way. But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life, there was only one set of footprints. I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me."
He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you Never, ever, during your trials and testings. When you saw only one set of footprints, It was then that I carried you."

Memories Of My Sister

Where do I begin,  I guess by saying I miss you and your lovely smile very much. You were truly a kind and loving person who brought laughter and joy to all who knew you over the years. Josie’s favourite flower was the passion flower and also the perfume made in Bermuda from this flower.

When Josie was 4, 2 kittens were found on the roof of our house on Serpentine Rd. After tears with our Mother she finally gave in and let us keep them. Josie named her kitten Jingles and I named mine Jangles, thus began our love of animals. 

Josie often visited me when I was newly married and would talk about the ‘boys’ she met at various dances. She was a good dancer and really enjoyed going to those events where she met the love of her life, George when she was 18.  He was a dashing American sailor who swept her off her feet..  She loved to swim and spent a lot of time with her girl friends at the St George's Hotel pool. Josie was part of the first class to pass the 11+ exam and was given a 4 year scholarship to attend the ‘elite’ Bermuda High School for girls.

After Josie married and moved to New York then Florida, her love turned to large dogs, the first being a mongrel rescue and the others pedigree german shepherds. When visiting Pompano over the years Josie and I would take long walks in the evening with her dog. The walks continued and we reminisced over our lives and families. Josie was a wonderful cook, my favourites were her pecan pie and sauerbraten with potato dumplings.

I am so thankful to GOD for giving me 2 wks this year to be with Josie albeit at the Hospital. I will always treasure the days we spent with her and she asked me to hold her hand plus relive some of our child hood memories. My serious sinus infection kept me from being there in March but I did have the opportunity to do several skype calls with her.

Josie my love rest assured that I was there in prayer and spirit with you. We will meet again with Mom. 

Aunty Josie you were taken to soon, we are all going to miss you, no one could cook Keylime Pie like you,  I know you are watching over us during this difficult time of our lives,  fly high with the angels above, may you Rest In Peace.

Tribute to My Aunt Josie - Part 2

Aunt Jo you will be missed but remembered with much love and affection until we meet again. You need to make sure there is a place for us so that we can continue the card games, walking the dogs, watching movies and travelling to exotic places..

Do not stand at her grave and weep

She is in the diamond glints on snow.

Tribute to My Aunt Josie
Part 1

I wish to honour my aunt who brought joy, warmth and happiness to myself and everyone she met. Her welcoming smile and very positive outlook on life influenced me even when she was telling me off. I really enjoyed our late night session watching TV and sharing stories about the family or my visits to Pompano from my teenage years through to adulthood.. In recent years my mother joined me on my trips to Florida.  Aunt Jo said my visits were like mini ‘roller coaster rides’ as I planned out the visit to maximise on time with the family plus doing something ‘exciting, including passing out at the theatre last year. Our annual get together always included making farine pie one of her favourite dishes and a speciality from Bermuda. She liked to travel and we would often talk about places that were on her ‘bucket list’, especially if they were locations I had already been to. Touching the Berlin Wall in the early nineties when she visited me in Luxembourg and collecting a ‘piece’ of the wall to add to her collection, her very exciting travel to Australia with her daughter Kim and friends and her visit to the glaciers in Alaska with Uncle George were some of the notable trips we discussed in detailed and the funny stories from her travels. We talked about doing a safari in Africa as she loved wild life and I am sure she will now be doing that with “Twitch”, her mother, who was another great traveller. Her frequent visits to Bermuda either staying in homes that I arranged or in later years when she came by cruise ship. We had a lot of fun with the ‘mopeds’, meeting up with my work colleagues and sporting friends, plus the Bermuda family… She loved animals, I have fond memories of walking her german shepherds around the block. One dog called Max was more ‘dog’ aggressive and she would frequently remind me to keep a tight leash when we past some of the neighbours property where there were other animals.


Aunt Josie was one of absolute kindest people we have ever been lucky enough to have had in our family and our world.  She always greeted you with a smile and a Hug ( and usually a plate of brownies). Not sure how she always remembered everyone's birthday with a sweet card but she sure did! We love you Aunt Josie and will miss you and will smile when we think of you !

When my own parents left this world, Josie stepped in and gave me love during times I needed it most. She cheered on my accomplishments... called to check on me when I wasn’t feeling well... and supported me, when I needed some mama love, on an ordinary day. When Josie passed, she took a piece of my heart with her. I hope she holds on to that piece, because it signifies how deep my love for her is. Life without her will never be the same. Be at peace mama. I love you always.

Mom and I have great memories of our trip to Australia with Josie and Kim. Such great travel buddies. We will greatly miss our lunches too. Such a beautiful lady, inside and out. 

Rest In Peace Mrs. Seifert- you’ve been on the periphery of my family’s life for so many years and a wonderful friend to my mother who will greatly miss you.

Josie brought love and laughter to so many people. We were blessed to enjoy her company and friendship. She will be hugely missed, yet the memories of her expressions of humor and love, along with that wonderful smile, will always be with us. Love to George and all the family.
