Mary Ann Thies Peers

Mary Ann Thies Peers, 81 of Fort Lauderdale passed away on July 9, 2024. Mary Ann was born in Washington D.C. and moved with the family to Fort Lauderdale in 1948 where she graduated from Central Catholic High School (St. Thomas Aquinas), class of 1961.

After high school, Mary Ann joined the St. Joseph convent in Jenson Beach, Florida. She did not take final vows. She taught school at St. Clements after leaving the convent and worked several jobs in the family business at William Thies and Sons, before marrying Jack Peers in 1985.

She was very active throughout her lifetime, including traveling, golf, cycling, swimming and boating. She had a big personality and loved bringing people together. She loved the ocean, family get togethers, had many friends and enjoyed a good laugh.

Mary Ann and Jack enjoyed many wonderful vacations from boating in the Bahamas, traveling to Europe, taking cruises with her siblings and RVing across the country. She also enjoyed a vacation home she shared with her husband in Sky Valley, Georgia. Her loyal husband Jack was always by her side, especially the last few years when her health declined.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Jack Peers; her brother Dennis (Patti) Thies; sister-in-law, Nancy Gieser; brother-in-law Robert Peers and was loved and adored by her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents William and Marguerite Thies, sister Peggy Thies Blaikie, brother Bill Thies, and sister Judy Thies Bullington.

A prayer service in her honor will be held July 22 from 5–7pm at Kraeer Funeral Home, 200 West Copans Road, Pompano Beach, FL. On July 23, a funeral service will be held at 10:30am at St. Coleman’s, 1200 Federal Hwy, Pompano Beach. Following the funeral, Mary Ann will be laid to rest at City of Pompano Beach Cemetery at 400 SE 23rd Avenue, Pompano Beach.
