.Mary “Fran” Harrison was born on December 16, 1921, in Richmond, VA and passed away peacefully on July 25, 2021, in Pompano Beach, Florida. She was the fifth of eight siblings, 6 girls and 2 boys. She married her first husband, Clarence “Sonny” Gifford in 1941. From that union, one child was born, Richard Gifford, who she loved dearly. Sonny preceded her in death in 1969 after 28 years of marriage. In 1971, she married W.T. Harrison and gained three children and grandchildren that Fran treated as her own. Troy Gifford and Lynnea Gifford Tate, and step grandchildren Crystal, Traves, and Tiffany, all who were the joy and loves of her life.
Fran and WT moved from Rockville, MD to Deer Creek, FL in 1988 and then moved to John Knox Village in 2000. Anyone who knew Fran, knew that church was always important to her, and she loved D. James Kennedy and Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church. She supported many of the outreach ministries of the church with her presence and finances. She was a charter member of New Presbyterian Church where she had many lifelong friends. She loved sharing her faith and brought a ray of sunshine wherever she went. Her special greeting for friends and casual acquaintances alike was “Hi Sugga”.
Fran loved to travel and visited most of the 50 states & many other countries. She loved talking about her experiences. The highlight of her travels was as trip to the Holy Land in 1969. She was an avid reader and averaged more than 50 books each year. She often quoted from memory Psalms 121 to her Christian friends.
She will be missed by many. Our loss is heavens gain.
