

She married Roberto Barbour on August 14, 1947 and moved to Port Washington, NY where she gave birth to two of her four sons (Robert and Richard). The family moved to Mount Holly, NJ in 1952 where she gave birth to her other two sons (Randall and Rene). From there she moved to Roslyn Harbor, New York in 1957 where they lived for the next 20 years. During this time period she and her husband became friends with notables such as Salvador Dali, Robert Casey (head of the CIA), Alfonso Pardo-Gutierrez (United Nations), and others of the Greatest Generation. Also joining the family was Guillermo (Billy) Azuero from Colombia, South America. Billy spent his youth living with the family and attended grade school and High School before returning to Colombia on a permanent basis. The five boys were a handful as each one was a prankster. Miriam and her husband retired to Pompano Beach Florida in 1977 where she lived for the next 22 years. Following the passing of her husband, she moved to Las Vegas Nevada where she spent the rest of her life living in beautiful sunshine along with her youngest son, Rene and his wife Janet. Rene and Janet took good care of her during this time period, thank you.
At the age of 16 she was ranked 4th in the nation in the backstroke. Her dreams of trying out for the Olympics ended with the advent of WWII. She was a member of the Daughters of the Revolution. On her fathers’ side, the first relative to immigrate to this country was in 1648. Additional organizations DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), DAC (Daughter of the American Colonists, Southern Dames and UDC (United Daughters of the Confederacy), where she served as Chapter president. She was also a member of the University of Alabama Cheerleading squad and traveled with the football team to the Orange Bowl (January 1, 1943) where the team defeated Boston College 37-21 under Coach Frank Thomas. She was a Roll Tide fan ever since and watch their football games all the time throughout her life.
She is survived by her four sons and their wives; Robert and Josie, Richard and Rose, Randall and Sue, and Rene and Janet, eleven grandchildren; Melissa, Lisa, Kristen, Michael, Gabrielle, Richie, Russell, Sharon, Tanya, Shannon, and Morgan, four great grandchildren; Landon, Bryce, Owen, and Breelyn, two nephews; Tony Teta and Lance Walker, and one niece; Adrian Walker.
Funeral arrangements are being made by Kraeer Funeral Home, 200 W. Copans Road, Pompano Beach, Florida 33064 on Friday February 28, 2020. The funeral will be on Saturday February 29, 2020 at Christ Church United Methodist, 210 NE 3rd St, Pompano Beach, Florida 33060. She will be buried at the Pompano Beach Cemetery alongside her husband Roberto. Her High School Yearbook graduation picture had the caption: Forget her – Never, and we won’t. Thank you Mom.
