Patricia Luetta Black quietly passed away on March 8, 2025 with her loving family around her. She was born on March 24, 1932 to Roy Maynard Peck and Lois Luce Peck in Clinton, Indiana. Her father was a coal miner who was involved in union organizing for the coal miner’s union. Pat was second youngest of 8 and was very close to her younger brother, Jimmy Gene. Vivacious, funny and talented, she enjoyed performing on stage, playing tennis, and doing art.
After high school, with dreams of being a missionary, she went to Columbia Bible College. While there she met her future husband, Dwayne Lee Black. They were married in August of 1954 and moved to Ft. Worth, Texas. In 1956, Pat gave birth to her first child, Dwayne Lee Jr. The young family moved again to Rockledge, Florida where Dwayne was the youth minister at Rockledge Presbyterian. Pat was very involved with the kids in the youth group and taught them how to cook and encouraged their creative spirits. One such kid was Stephanie Patterson, who they adopted after she graduated high school. Seeking to start their own church, Pat and Dwayne moved to Pompano Beach, Florida and began the Westkirk church. In 1966, Pat gave birth to their daughter, Allison.
A few years later, they moved to Lighthouse Point when Dwayne accepted the role of associate minister at Pompano Beach Presbyterian, the Pink Church. Always wanting the best education for her children, Pat went to work as a real estate agent finding much success selling million-dollar properties. Pat was active all of her life believing that it was important to find an activity that you can do all your life – and for her it was tennis.
Later in life Pat wrote several books, A Parking Place, Gravy, and Homicide on Poinciana Drive as well as many short stories. In their retirement, Pat and Dwayne bought a home in North Carolina that allowed them to spend summers in the mountains and winters in Florida. Pat found a lot of inspiration from the nature and wildlife around her mountainside home. She especially loved getting visits from the neighborhood bears.
Pat passed on her beauty, talent, humor and creative spirit to her grandchildren, Hilary and Noah, her great grandchildren, Emma, Amelia, Liam, Charlie, and Sawyer.
Pat is survived by her husband, Dwayne, her son, Dwayne Jr. and his wife, Cindy, and her daughter, Allison and of course her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
