October 17, 1927 – May 11, 2026
Sarah Ann Pickstock-Parker was born on October 17, 1927, in the settlement of North Mastic Point, Andros, to Percival Pickstock and Marion (nee McNeil) Pickstock. Her father was born in Mastic Point Andros but was of British Honduran descent (British Honduras was renamed Belize in June 1973), while her mother was a proud descendant of the Seminole Indians who had migrated from Florida. From these rich and varied roots, Sarah came into the world full of purpose and promise.
Sarah received her formal education at the All-Age School in Mastic Point. Upon completing her schooling, she joined three of her sisters — Ivy, Maria, and Estelle — and together they set off for Nassau in search of new opportunities. It was there that Sarah discovered her calling.
Sarah trained as a nurse in Nassau and quickly became a beloved figure throughout the community, known for her skill and compassion in helping to bring new life into the world as a midwife. After several years of dedicated service, an opportunity arose for her to further her career in the United States. She embraced it wholeheartedly, relocating to South Florida in 1961, where she went on to earn her credentials as a Registered Nurse.
Sarah joined the staff at North Broward Hospital, where she poured herself into her work for over fifteen years. For Sarah, nursing was never merely a profession — it was a gift she offered to every patient in her care. Her professionalism and deep commitment to duty earned her numerous awards and the admiration of colleagues and patients alike. Her career was brought to an untimely end when a workplace accident on April 25, 1979, severely injured her right knee, forcing an early retirement; yet the lives she touched during those years remain a lasting testament to her devotion.
It was during her time in the United States that Sarah was swept off her feet by JD Parker. The two were married on February 23, 1965, and JD would be her devoted husband for 61 years. She came to their union as a mother of four — Rudy, Pauline, Tyrone, and Donna — and together she and JD welcomed three more children: Jeffrey, Carol, and Rodney. JD loved Sarah greatly, and they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love. He preceded her in death on April 24, 2022.
Sarah’s generous heart extended far beyond her patients. She was a fierce advocate for education, encouraging every family member to pursue their highest potential. Once she had established herself in the United States, she opened her home and her resources to support those she loved in building better lives. Her door was always open, and her encouragement never ran dry.
Sarah also had an immense love for dogs. She adored her dogs — Moint, Samantha, Lady, Tisha, and Max — cherishing each one as though they were her own children and caring for them tenderly until they passed. Her other great joy was her garden. She could often be found in her yard tending to her flowers, fruit trees, and her beautifully kept green grass, finding peace and delight in the simple rhythms of the earth.
In her later years, Sarah found contentment in the quieter pleasures of life — watching TBN and browsing QVC, delighting in the small comforts each day brought. She had long attended St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Pompano Beach, Florida, where her faith sustained and anchored her. In time, Sarah and JD moved in with their daughter in Miami, spending their final years surrounded by family, sharing their love and wisdom with all who gathered around them.
The scripture in Psalms 90:10 ESV says;
The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty; yet their span[a] is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away.
Sarah got her good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over. After a full and beautiful life of 98 years, she quietly slipped into eternity at 8:00 p.m. on May 11, 2026. She is deeply missed and dearly loved.
