We are devastated to say goodbye to our dear Tommy who fought the best battle he could against a disease that was too strong for him to overcome. On January 10, in the early morning hours Tommy took his life in what we can only imagine he thought was his only escape from this horrible disease in his search for peace.
Tommy Petroski was born on November 27, 1964 to Stanley Petroski (Father - predeceased) and Barbara Petroski (Mother – surviving) in Syosset New York, raised in East Northport NY and a graduate of Commack High School. Tommy moved to Florida in 1989, and most recently resided in Margate Fl.
Tommy is survived by his longtime companion/girlfriend Dawn Amendola with whom he shared a home and many years of love. His proudest accomplishment was his beautiful loving daughter Alexis Petroski Love (husband Ryan Love), Alexis never stopped believing in or loving her Dad. Most recently Tommy welcomed into the world his amazing granddaughter Alivia Love (parents Alexis and Ryan), Alivia succeeded in immediately melting his heart. He also leaves behind his loving Mother, Barbara Petroski (& Partner Roger Tilleman), who has walked through many times of joy and sorrow with Tommy and never faltered in her love for her son. Tommy also counted on and drew tremendous love, support and kindness from his siblings: Sisters Leigh Petroski (& wife Lauren Brophy) of Glenwood NJ, and Suzanne Cardello Papa (& partner Dan Jacoby) of Coconut Creek Fl. Tommy shared his home with Noel Leonardo (Dawn’s daughter) who held a very special place in his life, akin to a daughter in many respects. In addition, Tommy had great love for and enjoyed tormenting his niece and nephew Jacqueline Cardello (& partner Joseph Vega) and Anthony Papa, who could never contain their laughter when Uncle Tommy went on a tear with his comedic wit. Tommy had a huge extended family who loved him dearly; including aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Not to be missed is his loving pooch Gracie, who worshipped him as he did in kind. Tommy had a great capacity to love and you were never surer of that then when he wrapped you in one of his hugs where you felt the love straight through to your heart.
We will miss Tommy greatly and while our hearts will never truly heal we hope against hope that he has found the peace that eluded him here on earth. In lieu of offerings of any kind to the family, we ask that you make a donation to the charity of your choice that helps those fighting against the disease of depression and addiction in an effort to change the course of someone else’s life.
There will be a memorial gathering (with a 7 p.m. service) on Tuesday, January 15th from 4:30 to 8:00 pm at Kraeer Funeral Home, 200 West Copans Road, Pompano Beach, Florida 33064.
