

Alva Norman Maxie Montgomery, age 87, died Friday, March 30, 2012 at Church Street Personal Care Home in Ecru. She was born August 18, 1924 to Chester and Lorene Maxie in Laurel, MS. She and her husband, Clarence E. Montgomery, the love of her life, lived the majority of their lives in North Carrollton, MS, where he owned Montgomery Drugs. They moved to Pontotoc upon retiring. She was a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church, Pontotoc, and unwavering in her devotion to the Lord.
Services will be at 4 PM Monday, April 2, 2012 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Ken Hester and Rev. Mickey Gentry officiating; burial will follow in the Pontotoc City Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter Patsy Montgomery Patterson (Tommy); her cherished grandchildren, Sidra Patterson Winter (Michael) and Hunter Patterson (Andrea); two adopted sons, James Lamar Montgomery (Liz) and Trent Maxie Montgomery; her older sister, Dorothy Walters; and her youngest brother, Teddy Maxie (Ina Jo); numerous nieces and nephews; and young people she nannied as children, Haley and Wesley Sewell, Ellen and Ann Taylor, and Kate Hester.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 54 years, and her first-born child, Chuck Montgomery, four brothers and two sisters.
Pallbearers will be: Tommy Morton, Billy Montgomery, John Schubert, Eddie Taylor, Jim Long and Donnie Benjamin.
Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 4 PM at First Baptist Church in Pontotoc.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be sent to First Baptist Church, 31 Washington Street, Pontotoc, MS 38863, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
