Belton Eugene Berry, age 90, died on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville. He was born in Pontotoc County, MS to William Andrew and Ather Lee Dowdy Berry on October 3, 1920. He attended Holmes Junior College and later received both bachelors and master’s degrees from MS State University. He retired from the MS Cooperative Extension Service at MS State in 1981 after 30 years of service. He was a member and deacon at the First Baptist Church in Starkville. He was a past president of the Ackerman Rotary Club, a Master Mason and an Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and hunting.
Services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc, with Rev. Clifton Curtis officiating, burial will follow in the Sand Springs Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ruth Waldrop Berry; one daughter: Linda Berry Williamson (Jim) of Oak Ridge, TN; and a granddaughter: Valerie Williamson of Atlanta, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother: Elton Berry, and Sisters Lois Brown and Laura Arnold.
Pallbearers will be: Jim Williamson, Bernard Graham, Michael Graham, Lynn Dowdy, Andy Arnold and Tommy Coleman.
Visitation will be from 12 to 2 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
